Has the bubble burst for garden centres increased sales volumes? Analysis of last weeks Epos data for GTN Bestsellers shows sales dipping below or just matching previous years levels for the first week since mid February.
The drop in sales could be down to any number of factors; in 2019 last week was Easter week, continued cold winds may have kept people out of their gardens (it's been quite Arctic here in the east) and the opening of outdoor catering and other non-essential retail may well have had an impact on garden centre footfall.
As summer bedding plants start to come into stock and sell through the only area that continues to have a great lack of stock is furniture and BBQ's. Where other gardening products may be out of stock, suitable alternatives appear to be selling through instead.
