GTN Bestsellers: Lighting sales heat up
Exclusive garden centre Epos data analysis

After weeks bemoaning not having a sustained period of good warm weather and that being blamed for the lack of garden furniture and garden decoration sales, temperatures started to soar during the second week of July and as a result garden decoration, lighting in particular, roared back into the GTN Bestsellers charts.

The downside, however, was that core gardening and overall volume sales suffered with the total of all items sold in the GTN Bestsellers Epos data base being 11% down on the same week of 2021 and 3% down on the same week of 2019.

Year to date volume sales are now static with 2021 and 16% up on 2019. It will be interesting to see the effects of the 40-degree heat during this week and the first summer holiday period since 2019 when people have been able to travel abroad in high numbers.

From what we’ve heard during this week, centres with air-conditioned restaurants were a magnet for customers seeking relief from the heat and there were some high value furniture sales too as the mercury rose.
