Even the most passionate of gardeners can find themselves lacking inspiration from time to time, looking for ways to add interest to their planting schemes. This year, Town & Country wants to encourage people to ‘spice up their gardening’, inspired by the launch of the brand’s new, chilli patterned gloves.
The gloves feature a chilli pattern in three different colourways; green, red, and yellow – perfect for spicing up your gardening! The comfort and flexibility of these vibrant flexigrip gloves make them perfect for carrying out light work, especially where dexterity is key. The latex coated palm and fingers provide added protection and grip for all your gardening tasks. They are soft, stretchy, bright and breathable, and the tailored fit means that no dirt can get onto your hands, perfect for planting and weeding.
Here are some tips to heat up your gardening this summer:
Create a red hot zone
Nothing says ‘spice’ like the colour red, and it’s so easy to bring it into the garden, with many plant varieties available in a range of fiery hues. To make your red garden design pop, use a variety of perennial and annual plants. You can’t go wrong with vibrant roses in shades of red and orange, and tulips, geraniums and Crocosmia ‘Hellfire’ will add a riot of fire. Acers will show a variety of colours throughout the year, while the stunning Cornus Midwinter Fire will bring the heat even in the depths of winter.
Go wild in the garden with a wildflower patch
Forget about the formality and spice things up by creating a wildflower patch in the garden. Even just a small area of your garden leftover to the wild can increase biodiversity and will encourage more pollinators, insects and wildlife to it. Sprinkle some wildflower seeds to help things along, and don’t forget a small pile of logs to create a wildlife habitat, and even a small pond or water feature.
Create an exotic spice patch
What’s the most obvious way to spice up your gardening? Grow some spices, of course! Herbs and spices are generally very easy to grow, and a lot of them share a few common requirements. Make sure that your soil isn’t too rich – as a rule of thumb, the worse the soil, the more intense flavour and scent the herbs will have. The main exception to this rule is flowering herbs – they do require a rich soil.
Make sure that your herbs get plenty of sunshine and water. It is the sunshine that will intensify the fragrance and flavour, and regular water with good drainage will keep them healthy. Some of the hardier Mediterranean herbs will tolerate less water, but they’ll let you know when they need some!
Periodic trimming and harvesting will also benefit the plants, just as they will benefit the meals you put them in!
For over 30 years, Town & Country's goal has been to make your gardening life easier and more enjoyable by developing gloves, footwear and accessories that provide unrivalled quality, style and performance. The chilli gloves are available exclusively at garden centres across the country.
