Fire at Blue Diamond’s Grosvenor Garden Centre

The warehouse at Grosvenor Garden Centre in Chester, caught fire at around 3.30am on Tuesday (June 14)...

Three fire engines from Chester, one from Ellesmere Port, one from Malpas, the aerial ladder from Chester, the High Reach Extendable Turret (HRET) and a number of relief crews attended the site to attempt to tackle the blaze.

By 9.30am, the roof had collapsed so crews continued to extinguish the fire from outside a safety cordon. Fire crews will remain in attendance at this incident for the rest of the day, extinguishing any pockets of fire that may appear. The main area of the garden centre was not affected by the fire.

A fire crew from Audlem are still at this incident, checking for hot spots of fire with a thermal imaging camera.  Any they do find are being extinguished with water from a hose reel. The High Reach Extendable Turret (HRET) is also being used to help extinguish hot spots inside the collapsed building.

A fire investigation to establish the cause is now taking place.

The building housed a large amount of stock which has all been damaged by the fire, however, nobody was in the centre at the time, so nobody was harmed.

The garden centre remains closed to the public and is expected to open on Thursday morning.
