Badger Garden Centre staff cycled 140 miles to raise £1,600 for children’s hospice
It took staff from Badger Garden Centre in Studley 12 hours to cycle 140 miles – and to raise £1,600 for the nearby Acorns children’s hospice.
Manager James White and three colleagues – Anthony Niner, Ben Hope, Stephen Millward – cycled south to a sister garden centre near Bournemouth in two of the hottest days of the year.
Unfortunately Stephen – who was the only team member to have cycled long distance before – suffered heat exhaustion and had to pull out after the first 100 miles.
They arrived at Golden Acres Garden Centre – part of the same horticultural group – on July 7 amid blistering temperatures of 32ºC.
Acorns children’s hospice provides a round-the-clock network of care and support to children and young people with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions.
It has three hospices in Selly Oak, Walsall and Worcester, offering day care, short breaks, emergency medical care and end-of-life care.
