When is the best time for the Easter Bank Holiday?
|
We’ve just been through another early Easter where the weather, in the form of Storm Katie, had a big say in the sales of garden centre products and footfall. The data for GTN Bestsellers shows sales up 1.4 % on the same week last year even including no trading on Easter Monday, but everyone was expecting more.
So the announcement by the Archbishop of Canterbury that the dates of Easter could be fixed within 10 years could be good news. The most common date for the Western churches’ Easter is 19 April. The earliest Easter can be is 22 March, and the latest it can fall is 25 April. But when would it be best for garden centres?
At GTN Bestsellers we analyse sales performance over the two weeks that the Bank Holiday covers, so next week we will look back on Easter over the past six years to see which gave the best uplift in sales.
What is your view on the dates of Easter? Would fixing it be the best idea? Or is it just down to the weather so it doesn’t matter when it falls? Email your views to trevor.pfeiffer@tgcmc.co.uk
