Centre faced with ‘crazy’ order to close mini golf course

Cherry Hill Garden Centre is facing the ‘crazy’ prospect of having to remove a miniature golf course and play area from its site near Middlesbrough after being served with an enforcement notice from the local council.

In a bid to save the popular family attractions the centre has now submitted a planning application to Hambleton District Council.

Cherry Hill director Peter Wilkinson said he accepted planning rules were necessary but had been dismayed by the decision to serve the centre with an enforcement notice.

He told the Yorkshire Post that the miniature golf course and play area had proved popular, encouraging a wider range of customers to shop at the centre.

“The only thing that required planning permission was that we used concrete tubes as vertical planters and some were touching just over the two-metre limit. It's very petty, but if it needs planning permission, it needs planning permission.”
