Covent Garden will stage an outdoor floral art gallery as part of next week’s Chelsea Fringe celebrations.
The conceptual floral installation, titled ‘Moments of Reflection’, will be built on Covent Garden’s East Piazza, adorned with large mirrors inviting visitors to take a floral selfie and spare a moment or two for reflection. It has been designed by Gavin Jones and Covent Garden’s newly installed Head Gardener.
The living wall of the installation will be a celebration of Britain’s favourite spring blooms, with more than 20 different species including foxgloves, wallflowers, geraniums, petunias and lobelias.
A community herb garden with more than10 different herbs will be planted in the Piazza. A selection of Covent Garden’s restaurants and bars including Frenchie, Petersham Nurseries, Vini Italiani and Lima Floral have created bespoke cocktails and dishes using these herbs.
More than 40 of Covent Garden’s shops and restaurants will join in the festivities and blossom with botanical windows, in-store displays and floral products.
Petersham Nurseries, famous for its food, will welcome customers to an immersive masterclass on 30 May to learn how to create the ultimate floral arrangement and to alfresco dining in Floral Court, a beautifully planted central courtyard.
