Having enjoyed a record year in 2025 and delivered exceptional market leading service levels for their clients, RocketGro further expands its production capacity with the acquisition of more storage capacity...
Having enjoyed a record year in 2025 and delivered exceptional market leading service levels for their clients, RocketGro further expands its production capacity with the acquisition of more storage capacity.
RocketGro has until now had the ability to hold 1100 full pallets of product at any one time. With this acquisition, RocketGro will be able to hold 6100 full pallets at any one time. A massive increase that will ensure garden centres always receive their order on time through 2026 however busy the year.
RocketGro are delighted to have secured enough ‘concrete,’ only 1 mile away from their production plant, to enable the company to have on hand at any one time enough pallets to fill 254 Artic lorries. Having two storage locations (1100 & 5000 pallets) also enables RocketGro to double the number of Artic lorries that leave the business every day. And being so close to their manufacturing plants keeps the Carbon footprint of transport to a minimum.
The company matures its compost for at least 9 months. Bags fresh, and stores complete pallets for a minimum time period, ensuring garden centres receive product in tip top condition. This new storage capacity will maintain that approach and at the same time embrace the needs of garden centres who sometimes urgently need a delivery within 48 hours during peak periods and need reliable supply.
RocketGro Managing Director Toby Thomas commented: “This development is hugely significant for us. This season we have managed exceptional service levels for our clients and we are super proud of our team for delivering that. Being able to store 5x more complete pallets on a revolving basis is a massive step forward in ensuring we maintain those service levels and ensure we will not run out of completed stock in 2026. We expect to increase sales by 30% in 2026 over 2025. This added space so close to our farm is a game changer and sets us up for further success.”

British garden equipment manufacturer and distributor Handy has taken a major step in its sustainability journey with the installation of a state-of-the-art solar power and storage system at its Swindon headquarters. The project reflects Handy’s commitment to reducing its environmental impact, improving operational efficiency, and leading innovation in the garden machinery sector.
At the heart of the project is the Solis 50 kW hybrid inverter, paired with 20 kW of battery storage. This innovative technology, one of the first installations of its kind in the UK, enables Handy to store surplus energy for later use, power its entire HQ, and reduce reliance on the grid. The system is managed via the Solis Cloud platform, giving Handy access to detailed monthly reports, live performance data, and historic records, allowing real-time tracking of usage, savings, and energy strategy.
Since going live in 2024, Handy’s solar and battery system has delivered substantial clean electricity to its Swindon headquarters. The 194 high-performance 435 W UK solar panels have generated a total of 51,066 kWh, with 76% (approximately 38,788 kWh) directly consumed on-site and 24% (around 12,278 kWh) exported to the National Grid. In addition, 3,376 kWh has been drawn from the 20 kW battery to further supplement operations. Overall, around 60% of Handy’s total electricity consumption of 76,763 kWh has come from renewable sources, while the remainder was imported from the grid. According to Handy’s Solis Cloud monitoring platform, the system has already delivered significant energy and export benefits since installation, helping the business reduce its environmental impact and reliance on the grid.
“This investment is about more than just reducing costs,” said Steve Bartlett Managing Director. “By being one of the first commercial companies in the UK to deploy a 50 kW Solis hybrid with battery storage, we’re demonstrating Handy’s commitment to innovation, sustainability and leadership in our industry. It’s an investment in the future of our business, our customers and the environment.”
The system, installed by WRB Group in November 2024, was completed in just one week, with no disruption to production or day-to-day operations.
This new solar and storage installation is the latest step in its long-term sustainability strategy, which aims to reduce environmental impact, improve efficiency and set a positive example for the garden machinery sector.
“From the very start, we worked closely with the team at Handy to design a system that met their exact needs,” said Hugh McManus, Managing Director at WRB Group. “Our in-house team developed a tailored solution and completed the installation within a week, with minimal disruption to their operations. It was a pleasure to work with Handy on this project. After a full handover, we continue to support them to ensure the system delivers maximum performance and long-term value. This project shows what’s possible when organisations take a proactive approach to energy, and we look forward to helping more businesses across the UK and Ireland realise the benefits of renewable solutions.”
A family-owned company for more than 80 years, Handy operates from a purpose-built 70,000 sq. ft Swindon site, home to more than 45 staff. It’s garden machinery brands include Webb Garden Power and The Handy, and it is a distributor for other well known brands, including Greenworks.

Westland Horticulture, one of the best know names in the garden retail industry, has brands dedicated to empowering everyone with the skills, knowledge, and tools for gardening success.

Westland Horticulture have been supporting the work of the Foundation for many years and in many ways, including sponsoring the podcast Cultivate Your Future. In recognition of this ongoing and substantial support, the Foundation has awarded Westland Horticulture with a ‘Named Fund’. Chair of Trustees for the Foundation, Stuart Lowen presented Edward Conroy, Westland CEO with a certificate to mark the occasion at this year’s Glee exhibition.
Edward Conroy said, at the time of the presentation: “This is marvellous, we at Westland are really pleased to support the great work that the Foundation does. Our industry needs good people who are well trained to drive our sector forward and investing some of our resource in everybody’s future is essential.”
‘Named Funds’ is one of the ways individuals and companies can support the Foundation, who provide scholarships to students studying horticulture. Another is where retailers can sell plants which contain a royalty to the Foundation, such as the rose Peters’ s Persica which is grown and supplied by Wharton’s Roses, or Petunia Tumbelina ‘Nicola’ bred by Kerley & Co at Cambridge and the Marigold Glow Up series of seed grown African type marigolds from ProVeg, which have proved to have outstanding garden performance.
Keith Nicholson, Marketing Director at Westland Horticulture, continued: “At Westland, we are proud to invest in the future. We recognise our responsibility in nurturing talented and passionate individuals and helping to promote the wealth of fantastic career opportunities in the horticulture and gardening industry. Westland has always been forward-thinking, and it feels only natural to help young people grow their talents which will, in turn, help us to shape the future of our industry. We are therefore proud to support the outstanding work that the Colegrave Seabrook Foundation is undertaking to support students studying horticulture.”

The Horticultural Trades Association launched its Scottish Environmental Horticulture Manifesto at Pentland Plants near Edinburgh. The Horticultural Trades Association launched its Scottish Environmental Horticulture Manifesto at Pentland Plants near Edinburgh. If the Scottish government adopts the practical recommendations, it could unlock a £5.1 billion opportunity for Scotland’s economy by 2030, fostering greener jobs, healthier, more resilient communities, and stronger local businesses.
The environmental horticulture sector, which includes retailers, growers, manufacturers, wholesalers, landscapers and garden designers, already supports nearly 60,000 jobs and contributes £2.6 billion to Scotland’s GDP. The manifesto demonstrates that, with the right policies in place, this economic contribution could almost double by 2030, helping to deliver Scotland’s ambitions for economic growth, wellbeing and net zero ambitions.
Rising operational costs are creating an increasingly challenging environment for HTA members, the majority of whom are family-run small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Key recommendations include a fairer business rates system and smarter investment to ensure Scottish firms are not paying higher business rates than those south of the border, thereby undermining national competitiveness. Furthermore, the sector seeks faster, fairer planning decisions to address the "postcode lottery" effect and unlock barriers to sustainable growth, including allowing sites to be retrofitted for energy efficiency, and consistency in kerbside collections across all Local Authorities for recyclable non-black plastic plant pots.
The manifesto also seeks targeted investment grants to improve the sector’s water resilience and energy efficiency, and to strengthen peat-free practices and the adoption of automation. Garden centre retailers, often excluded from existing funding schemes, need to be explicitly included, while also simplifying grant applications to ensure quicker environmental and economic returns.
Beyond business investment, the HTA calls for nurturing future skills and green jobs. This includes introducing a statutory requirement to ‘grow plants’ into the curriculum during Key Stages 1 and 2 to foster health and wellbeing benefits and help children build an understanding of science and the natural world. Horticultural roles must also be formally recognised within the Scottish Government’s green jobs definitions to ensure careers are valued and visible. The HTA also proposes that links between industry and providers such as Scotland’s Rural College (SRUC) and The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh (RBGE) should be further strengthened, as well as establishing new tree-production apprenticeships through publicly owned tree nurseries within Forestry and Land Scotland.
Green spaces are vital to Scotland’s health and resilience, with 85% of Scots reporting that they benefit their mental health. Establishing a cross-departmental Horticulture and Green Spaces Group would help explore legal protections and maintenance standards for these spaces, as well as secure and safeguard funds for local planting and community projects. The value of Social and Therapeutic Horticulture is reinforced, with Trellis Scotland estimating the economic benefits per person from reduced public service use ranging from £830 to £31,520 after one year.
Looking ahead, the HTA encourages Scotland to lead the way in developing a comprehensive action plan for the production of ornamental and productive plants and trees. This should include considering supply, skills gaps, and grant support for non-forestry production, and issuing multi-year contracts to support nurseries in fulfilling native tree planting. A feasibility study could also be conducted to highlight which imported plants and trees could be grown in the UK.
Stan Green, Managing Director of Growforth and Chair of the HTA Scottish Policy Group, added:
"Horticulture connects the economy, the environment, and our daily lives in fundamental ways. This manifesto lands at a pivotal moment as the Land Reform (Scotland) Bill is debated, highlighting how vital land use and long-term planning are for Scotland's future. Our industry has a central role to play in this, and by working collaboratively, we can ensure Scotland leads the way in demonstrating how cultivating plants cultivates prosperity, strengthens communities, and protects our natural world."
Katie Neenan, HTA Senior Public Affairs and Policy Executive, commented:
"This manifesto acts as a practical roadmap for a greener, healthier, and more prosperous Scotland. Our sector is a vital part of local economies and communities, offering real solutions to national challenges. We are outlining clear, actionable steps the Scottish Government can take to foster growth, support businesses, and enhance both our natural environment and public health."
The HTA pledges to continue working with Holyrood to push forward these strategic recommendations.

The Colegrave Seabrook Foundation, the only registered charity solely dedicated to supporting students studying horticulture and the commercial production of ornamental plants, has supported approaching 150 students with almost £200,000 worth of scholarships in the past 10 years alone,
Stuart Lowen has taken on Chair of Trustees from Jeff Colegrave.
Thursday 16th October 2025 would have been the 100th birthday of leading seedsman, horticulturalist and businessman David Colegrave.
David Colegrave died in 1992, and his son, Jeff, continued to run the Colegrave Seeds business, until it was sold to the Ball Horticultural Company in 2001. During his career, David Colegrave took a keen interest in supporting and promoting the development of young people, and it was with this in mind that Jeff, with his family, set up a trust in memory of David, and the David Colegrave Foundation (now The Colegrave Seabrook Foundation) was formed to support students studying Horticulture.
Peter Seabrook was a great friend of David and became one of the founding Trustees of the Foundation when it was set up in 1993. Following Peter’s sudden death in 2022, the Colegrave family requested that the Foundation be renamed to reflect this great friendship.
Today the Colegrave Seabrook Foundation, the only registered charity solely dedicated to supporting students studying horticulture and the commercial production of ornamental plants, it has, in the last 10 years alone, supported approaching 150 students with almost £200,000 worth of scholarships.
The Trustee board met at Kew Botanic Garden, Kew on this significant date and also voted in a new Chair of Trustees. Recently retired from the role of Marketing Manager at Ball Horticulture, Stuart Lowen has taken on Chair of Trustees from Jeff Colegrave.
Stuart told GTN Xtra: “The Foundation is in great shape for future years and the challenges the industry faces and how to best service them for students with their careers in horticulture. Through the support we get form the horticultural industry and companies like Westland Horticulture, Smart Garden Products and Wyevale Nurseries we can build on the Foundations established reputation as the “go-to” provider of financial support for the next generation in the horticultural industry.
"Quite by chance, we are meeting on what would have been David’s birthday, and at a horticultural venue such as Kew. It seems very fitting. I think David would be very proud of the legacy his son Jeff, the wider Colegrave family and the horticultural industry have created and the support we are able to give to so many growing Horticulturalists. Our thanks must go to Jeff for his leadership of the Trustees for an incredible 30 plus years.”

Henry Bell & Co, owner of leading pet food brand, Mr Johnson’s, celebrated its 200th anniversary in style with guests from across the animal and bird feeds industry gathering at the Belton Woods Hotel in Grantham, Lincolnshire, for a drinks reception and dinner to mark this extraordinary milestone.
Stockists and suppliers from around the country joined Managing Director Thomas Lee and Finance Director Carol Foster at the elegant venue for a night filled with good food and drink, great conversation, music from saxophonist Ben Martin and close-up magic from Rich Reynolds. Guests were each presented with a special anniversary etched Dartington Crystal tumbler to commemorate the occasion.
“What a remarkable moment this anniversary is,” said Thomas. “Henry Bell started out as a flour miller in 1825 and today we supply wild bird and small animals feeds, processed cereals, pulses and horse feeds across the UK, Europe and beyond.
“We wouldn’t be where are today if it wasn’t for the trust and support of our customers and suppliers – and our fantastic team of employees who make it all possible. Our 200th anniversary is an important way to acknowledge what we have and what we have become, and to recognise that we are a fourth-generation family business built on shared purpose.”

The garden centre informed customers of the blaze on its Facebook page. It posted: “Due to an unfortunate fire last night in our restaurant, we are really sorry to let you all know that Meadow Croft Kitchen will be closed for the foreseeable future. The rest of the garden centre and the German Market will be open as usual.”
It went on to state: “We would just like to say a big heart-warming thank you to every single person that has given us their best wishes or has visited us.
“We are so thankful for the fire service that helped contain and put out the fire within the kitchen.
“We appreciate every staff member that has helped us figure out a path forward and ways to continue offering as much as we can for our customers.”

Trans-Continental, whose brands include SnowTime and SunTime, has announced a change of direction. From 2026 the company will concentrate on supplying customers predominantly by direct containers: the warehousing operation will be slimmed down and the direct despatch arm of the business discontinued.
Chairman Michael Withers commented: “Times change and companies must change with them. Many of our customers have moved to ordering full containers of products, allowing them to compete with other retailers who benefit from the economies inherent in this process. Warehousing and distribution has become more and more expensive and the regulations of the process increasingly onerous.
"This move represents the next stage in the company’s growth and we look forward to continuing to source excellent products and serving our customers in the years to come."
The company also announced the signing of an exciting new licence to market branded Christmas products, the revealing of which will take place next month.

phs Greenleaf has won eight industry-leading awards for its outstanding horticultural work across the business sector – a record for the company.
The Plants at Work ‘Leaf Awards’, run by the association representing interior landscapers, awarded three gold, four silver and one bronze award to phs Greenleaf, which has been providing planting and landscaping services to businesses for over 25 years.
One of the prestigious Gold Leaf Awards was presented to the Greenleaf team for their work with international law firm Pinsent Masons. This project saw the team complete office refreshes that enhanced interior and exterior planting across eight of the firm’s UK offices, including its 10 storey HQ in London.
The team also won a gold for their Christmas displays at 103 Colmore Road, a 26-storey landmark business development in Birmingham. Taking full creative control, Greenleaf created a spectacular red and gold Christmas Wonderland display for visitors and occupiers.
The third gold was for work with the app-based platform Fresha Limited, which saw the Greenleaf team refurbish the business’ new 3,000 sq. ft London headquarters with a nature-inspired aesthetic to promote well-being and creativity.
Greenleaf also scooped four Silver Leaf Awards for projects including a charity Christmas partnership with Battersea Dogs Home that saw trees and accessories donated, which judges described as “what an award-winning Christmas looks like.”
Other silvers went to the team for their large-scale living wall for community project The Maqam Centre in London, their interior plant maintenance work at Rolls Royce and their interior planting and moss wall installation for Sungrow Power Ltd in Milton Keynes.
phs Greenleaf also took a Bronze Leaf Award for its office interior and exterior refreshment project with Saint-Gobain – a world leader in sustainable construction located in Bristol.
Stephen Dieppe, Managing Director of phs Greenleaf, said: “We want to extend a huge thank you to our sales and operations team, who always go above and beyond to bring our customers’ visions to life. From proposals and designs to the installations and on-going maintenance, their passion, commitment and service quality is second to none.
“We also want to thank our incredible customers. We are lucky enough to work with some fantastic businesses, which understand the importance of plants and biophilic design in business, and the impact it can have on everything from mental and physical well-being to productivity and sales.”
phs Greenleaf supplies indoor and outdoor plants, artificial and live planting, living walls, grounds maintenance and Christmas trees and decorations to businesses right across the UK.
Part of the phs Group, it has over 8,000 customers in a range of sectors, including hospitality and leisure venues, retail spaces, public buildings and commercial premises.

Perrywood Garden Centres has opened its brand new £8.5 million garden centre in Sudbury, Suffolk.
The purpose-built centre – complete with a 200-seat coffee shop and restaurant – sits just across the driveway from the original garden centre. Local customers have watched it being built for the past year, and the wait is finally over.
The development is a significant investment for the town, bringing new shopping, dining, and leisure facilities and creating new jobs for the local area. Perrywood has recruited 35 extra team members and plans to continue growing the business.
What’s inside?
1900 square metres of indoor retail to allow for expanded ranges and bigger departments
A spacious outdoor plant area with two canopies
A 200-seat restaurant and coffee shop, designed so customers can relax amongst the plants. Table service. App ordering and table bookings will be introduced in the coming weeks.
Improved facilities, from a bigger car park with more accessible spaces to family-friendly and accessible toilets.
A welcoming team, combining familiar faces with 35 new team members from the local community.
The team expects turnover to increase by a third in year one, currently at £4.5m. When Perrywood bought the business from Wyevale in 2018, it turned over less than £1m.
The original Perrywood site will not go to waste – plans are already in place to refurbish the old garden centre, with more retail space due to open in 2026.
Perrywood is in talks with several retail partners, but with conversations ongoing, there is still time to express interest by emailing simon@perrywood.co.uk
“It’s been a huge undertaking and we can fully appreciate why many owners are expanding or operating from older buildings rather than building from scratch, as it’s not for the faint-hearted! Our initial plans were approved in 2021, just before external events sent building and borrowing costs sky high. Planning variations to build on a smaller scale in phase one were approved in 2022, and the build started a year ago,” said Operations Director, Tristan Bourne.
“This is a long-term investment for the future of the business and our family. Moving from owning one garden centre to three has allowed us to operate more efficiently and benefit from economies of scale.”
Perrywood worked with Pleydell Smithyman to secure planning permission and on the building and restaurant designs.
The buildings are from Newspan and Fordingbridge
Ground work and building contractor supervision was Ashwell Construction
Building fit-out contractor was Phelan Construction

Established by Alfred and Margaret Bent in 1937, Bents will celebrate its 90th anniversary in 2027 and, whilst it remains a strong family business, it is putting succession plans in place for the fourth generation of the Bent family. Jo’s appointment to the board is a significant step in this process and she joins Emma Kelly, Commercial Director as a non-family member to help guide its future direction and strategy.
Jo joined Bents in 2022 as Head of Finance and IT, bringing with her a wealth of experience from Pets at Home and Missguided. Says Matthew, Managing Director: “From the moment she arrived, Jo fitted in seamlessly adapting to our culture and values with ease and bringing fresh perspective and energy to our business.
“She shares our family vision and standards and has introduced new ways of thinking that have strengthened our financial decision-making and positively influenced the way we operate. It is a hugely well-deserved promotion and we’re excited to see what the future holds with Jo on our board of directors.”
Says Jo: “Having been part of the Bents family business for the past three years, I’ve seen first-hand the passion, creativity, and commitment that drive the business and family forward. I’m looking forward to building on this strong foundation and working with the team to support our continued growth and innovation, ensuring we remain a much-loved destination for our customers and community.”
Jo’s new role will include additional directorship duties and deputising in the absence of the Managing Director. The appointment has been made following extensive and on-going work with Juliette Johnson Consultancy, which is dedicated to supporting and advising families in business and are helping to plan and prepare Bents Garden & Home for future generations and independent growth.

The Royal Horticultural Society has published a new report that for the first time maps the UK’s gardens – domestic, public and private – and the people inspired to grow in them.
The State of Gardening paints a picture of a hugely popular practice already benefitting people and planet but with the potential to reap far greater environmental and societal reward if better understood, recognised and supported by policymakers.
The RHS, working in collaboration with Gentian, assessed ultra-high resolution satellite imagery and used AI and machine learning algorithm technology to provide precise insights into cultivated green space across Britain including form and function such as number of trees, ponds, and ground cover.
Researchers plotted 25.8 million gardens in Great Britain amounting to 959,800 hectares or 4.6% of the total land area. The provision of garden and green space varies across the UK with 41% of London categorised as garden versus just 19% in Leeds, 25% in Edinburgh and 27% in Cardiff.
20.6 million of the total are domestic gardens – front and / or back - accounting for 502,757 hectares. The mapping work found that:
The average domestic garden is 244m – that’s nine tenths of a tennis court.
19 million trees can be found in Great Britain’s domestic gardens and 50.5 million across all cultivated green space - six times more than London’s entire urban forest.
Just 0.15% of domestic garden is artificial lawn but this still accounts for 7.5million m while artificial grass across all cultivated green space stands at 18million m2 - more than six times the size of the City of London
More than a third (35%) of domestic gardens comprises lawn, with 25.8% under trees and 11% as flower beds.
42% of domestic garden space is paved over (55% of front garden space and 36% of back garden space), reducing gardens potential to cool, capture pollution, support biodiversity, carbon sequestration and storage, and restricting rainwater absorption by the soil and exacerbating flooding.
Accompanying RHS polling also reveals the number of adult gardeners – defined as those who garden at least once a month – to be 34million1 . Of those that said they hadn’t gardened in the last 12 months more than a third (38%) cited not having access to an indoor or outdoor space.
Across the UK 2.5million adults have gardened in their community in the last three years. 14.7 million more people said they were interested in gardening in the community, with two fifths of community gardening groups (47%) reporting an increase in volunteer numbers. But, over half of groups (56%) fear for their viability, with more than a quarter (30%) surviving on budgets below £500 per year. And just 3% own their own land.
This is in spite of the majority of community gardens saying they exist to bring their community together (85%), benefit participants’ physical (80%) and mental (79%) wellbeing, and encourage enjoyment of gardening (79%). Improving biodiversity and wildlife habitats (76%) and creating cleaner, greener or more attractive surroundings (71%) were also important motivations for many community gardeners.
To maximise the benefits of cultivated green space and protect them for the future the RHS is urging:
Policymakers to guarantee “Space to Grow” in all housing and urban planning, so every household has access to a garden
Homeowners to consider robust planting and permeable paving for front garden driveways to help mitigate flood risk and promote the cooling potential of gardens as well as support biodiversity
Local councils to ensure diversity in tree planting, prioritising those species that will respond best to climate change
Developers to design gardens with water channelling, capture and storage facilities to help future proof them
Clare Matterson, Director General at the RHS, said: “Gardens are the most important touchstone to nature, fostering an active engagement in and understanding of plants and wildlife. That there isn’t equality in access to growing space in the UK reinforces the need to shore up garden provision in the 1.5million new homes promised by government this parliament. It also demonstrates the need to ring-fence space and increase support and funding for the community growing spaces that should be considered an infrastructural basic.
“For too long the reach, impact and potential of gardens has been largely overlooked. Understanding the who, what, where and why of gardening is a crucial step in the RHS, partners and local and national government helping to build more resilient and sustainable places.”
The State of Gardening and accompanying Space to Grow: realising the potential of the community gardening movement reports also found:
More than 33 million adults garden at least once a month in the UK, but less than a quarter (24%) – 12.7million - consider themselves gardeners.
Roses and specifically ‘Gertrude Jekyll’ are among the most popular garden plant in the four home nations. In Northern Ireland the top plant is Rosa lucieae.
Gardens provide habitats for over 40% of all UK birds and mammals, 62% of amphibians and reptiles and 56% of all butterflies.
Around 1 in 3 of assessed cultivated plants are threatened in cultivation and 1 in 6 endangered in cultivation.
60% of UK children report gardening at least once a month.
Domestic gardeners cited perceived improvements to mental health (77%), physical health (76%) and social wellbeing (44%) as an impact of gardening. While more than half (52%) actively gardened in support of wildlife in the last year.
The RHS will repeat The State of Gardening every three years enabling the public, industry and policymakers to track the size and shape of cultivated garden space and engagement with it over time. The findings will also inform the charity’s outreach activities from 2026.
The State of Gardening and Space to Grow reports are available to view via the RHS website: www.rhs.org.uk.

Greenfingered gardeners from across the UK have helped to raise £10,000 for national children’s charity Greenfingers, thanks to a popular fundraising initiative driven by Vitax Limited.
Launched last year, Vitax partnered with Greenfingers Charity and pledged to donate 25p from the sale of every 2.5kg promotional pack of Vitax Q4 All Purpose Plant Food (Vitax Q4).
Over the past 12 months, the specially branded promotional packs have taken pride of place on garden centre shelves and have proved popular with gardeners, generating much-needed funds for the charity.
Vitax presented the donation at the opening of a new therapeutic garden at Acorns Children’s Hospice in Walsall—one of many gardens created by Greenfingers to support life-limited children and their families.
Anja Gooding, Vitax’s chair, says: “Greenfingers is a charity that is close to our hearts. Over the past year we have been raising funds through the sale of Vitax Q4 in garden centres and nurseries who have been incredibly supportive of the initiative.
“The positive benefits outdoor spaces can have on both mental and physical wellbeing is remarkable and we’re absolutely thrilled to be able to present Greenfingers with £10,000 to help the charity continue its life-changing work with hospices throughout the UK.
“Presenting the cheque in the grounds of Greenfingers latest therapeutic garden is a fitting tribute as to why we chose them as our charity partner and really brings home why the funds are needed.”
Working with hospices throughout the UK, Greenfingers create specially designed, stimulating garden spaces that can bring many benefits to children with life-limiting conditions.
The charity’s latest ‘Centred Garden' is the vision of Vanessa and Rachel of Vara Garden Design and built by Paul Taylor Landscaping and will offer children of all ages and abilities the chance to spend precious time together outdoors away from the bedside.
Receiving the cheque on behalf of the charity, Linda Petrons, director of fundraising and communications at Greenfingers, says: “The gardens we create really do make a difference to the children and families who enjoy them, but we could not continue to do so without the support of charity partners like Vitax.
“We know Vitax Q4 is a popular product amongst gardeners, and we are delighted with how much the initiative has raised.
“The donation means so much to the charity and we cannot thank Vitax and everyone who bought a promotional pack enough. Each pack sold has truly made a difference and will enable us to start creating new gardens in the near future.”
