Business brisk for garden centres over Bank Holiday

The sun shone over the Bank Holiday, enticing gardeners to get down to their local garden centre for those all important purchases for a weekend of action on their lawns, veg plots and flower borders.

Tim Greenway, Director of Highfield Garden World in Gloucestershire, captured the positive mood.

“As at the close of business on Sunday, we were back to trading levels of the May Bank Holiday in 2011 which was excellent,” he said. “Plant sales have really taken off and high ticket furniture and outdoor leisure have been selling well. We’ve been waiting for this for almost a year now.”

That’s great news although the GTN Bestsellers data suggests that there is still ground to make up on 2011 levels.

GTN Bestsellers Top 50 sales volumes compared to the same week last year:

  • Veg-2-Gro – up 81%
