Garden centres are being reminded to get their orders in for eight new varieties including four award-winners that were launched at the Horticultural Trades Association National Plant Show last year.

The plants were entered by leading commercial nursery Wyevale Nurseries for the New Plant Awards at the show and four of them received top accolades.

“Among the plants we submitted for the awards was Physocarpus opulifolius ‘Magic Ball’, which scooped a Best in Show and a Gold in the Shrubs and Climbers’ category.

“Also, we entered the new thornless Rosa ‘Cutie Pie’, which won Gold in the Shrubs and Climbers’ category and the bee magnet Delphinium ‘Red Lark’, which was awarded Silver in the Herbaceous section.”

Rosa ‘Cutie Pie’

Lomandra longifolia ‘Arctic Frost’

Lomandra Arctic Frost is an evergreen grass-like perennial that thrives in sun or part shade. Hardy down to -10°c, this plant provides shelter for insects and other invertebrates as the foliage expands.

Physocarpus opulifolius ‘Magic Ball’

Physocarpus Magic Ball is a stunning new shrub to hit the market offering nearly year-round interest. Pink flowers erupt in July until September.

Escallonia hybrid ‘Showstopper’

A beautiful, full hardy down to -8°c, shrub reaching a max height of 1.2m and spread of 80cm.

Delphinium ‘Red Lark’

The best new herbaceous plant to enter the market! Stunning red plumes of flowers from April-June. The ultimate pot plant but striking grown at the back of borders too. Attracts bees in particular.
