Local couple set to take over Setley Ridge Garden Centre

Specialist business property adviser, Christie & Co has completed on the leasehold sale of Setley Ridge Garden Centre in Brockenhurst, Hampshire to a local couple.

This traditional, family-run garden centre and nursery has been established for 30 years. The sale presented a rare opportunity to acquire a going-concern plant nursery and garden centre business on a new lease, located in the heart of the New Forest National Park.

The garden centre sits alongside other independently owned businesses, including a renowned farm shop and recently modernised café business. Also on the farm behind the garden centre is a vineyard, home of the established Setley Ridge Vineyard which is a popular tourist attraction offering vineyard tours and wine tasting events.

The new lease has been acquired by local couple, Jenny and Duncan Mason, who bring with them over 20 years’ experience working in the horticulture sector.

They comment, “We are delighted to be taking over Setley Ridge Garden Centre and will be looking to build on the already successful business with a focus on growing and selling quality plants, including plants grown on site. We will continue working with local companies and suppliers, offering a wide range of plants and garden products to create a unique retail experience. We are also focused on driving sustainability within the industry, such as reducing plastic waste and encouraging the use of more peat free products.”

Tom Glanvill, Director – Garden Centres & Retail at Christie & Co brokered the deal and comments: “Garden Centres are in my opinion at their best when they offer something different and have character. Setley Ridge Garden Centre is a charming site in the New Forest National Park, one of the most beautiful parts of the south of England.

“The sale of this site just shows the enthusiasm that there is for garden centre businesses when they come to the market; we had a strong levels of interest and bids from a number potential buyers. Duncan and Jenny have a great vision for the site and I am sure that it will become a must visit for all those seeking good quality local plants from nice local company. For those looking to support the business and see what is happening the site will be officially taken over on the 1st November. I know they have a good range of Christmas trees coming so do pop in!”
