Green-fingered Vitax team plant trees for community

Vitax demonstrated its commitment to sustainability through a tree planting event in the National Forest, as part of its latest community partnership.

The event saw the team plant 300 trees across two new groves at 15-hectares Peggs Pear Wood, in the National Forest, contributing to the long-term health of a landscape that sits firmly on the company’s doorstep.

For a business whose products help nurture gardens across the UK, the initiative forms a natural extension of its values, and a meaningful way to give something back to the local community.

Anja Gooding, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Vitax, said: "The National Forest is part of our landscape, it's where many of our team live, and spend time with their families. Sponsoring the groves through the tree planting initiative isn't just an environmental gesture, it is also an opportunity for us to support our local community.

We talk a lot about the benefits of working with nature and our partnership with the National Forest is a chance to get our hands dirty, bring the team together and do exactly that.

The two new groves form part of an effort to ensure future generations, including the next wave of gardeners, inherit a healthier, greener world.”

Jim Vickrage, development manager at the National Forest, said: “The support from Vitax will help us to develop the forest and manage our woodlands. Leaving a legacy like this means that in future years they can enjoy seeing how it grows and comes to life. We couldn’t do what we do without partnerships like this one.”

Within its business approach, Vitax maintains a focus on environmental responsibility and has introduced a range of organic and environmentally friendly products. The company seeks to balance sustainability and reduced environmental impact in its plans where possible, ensuring that meaningful action begins within its own community.

Peggs Pear Wood was acquired by the National Forest Company in 2023 to increase the environmental benefits associated with tree planting and new woodlands, as well as contributing towards the target of a third forest cover within the National Forest boundary by 2045.

The National Forest is one of the country’s most ambitious and highly regarded environmental projects with sustainable development at its heart, transforming 200 square miles across parts of Derbyshire, Leicestershire, and Staffordshire.
