Roller coaster ride for Christmas 2022
GTN Bestsellers weekly garden centre Epos data analysis

The total sales volume of the Top 50 bestselling Christmas Products in the GTN Bestsellers weekly Epos data now sits at 7% up on 2021 levels despite overall garden centre sales volumes being 3% down for the year as at the end of Week 48, ending 4th December.

It has been a roller coaster ride over the past six weeks for the Christmas Top 50 Bestsellers sales volume, with weeks alternating between up and down year on year.  Week 43 saw the biggest variance, up by 42% and week 45 the biggest year on year deficit at minus 8%.

Compared to 2019 Top 50 Christmas sales volumes, all but one of the last 6 weeks has been up, with only week 44 being down, by 6%.  So far the Top 50 Christmas Bestsellers are running at 9% up in volume sales compared to 2019.

When we look at overall garden centre sales volumes the past 6 weeks show a different story with only Weeks 43 and 48 exceeding last years volume sales figures.  The last 6 weeks total sales all products are 4% down on last year but 12% up on 2019 figures.

The GTN Bestsellers six-year trend analysis of garden centre sales activity shows that while sales this autumn and winter have been behind 2021 and 2020 levels trading volumes have been ahead of 2017, 2018 and 2019.

Plant sales over the past six weeks have not only been lower than 2022 volumes but apart from Week 47 have also been behind 2021 and 2019 volumes too.
