The trial of Hayes Garden World garden centre owner accused of conspiring to pervert the course of justice will resume with a new jury.

Thomas Hayes, 46, owner of Hayes Garden World of Ambleside, had been on trial at Carlisle Crown Court accused alongside another man, Derek Henderson, 58, of lying about who was driving a luxury Porsche involved in a crash.

The judge in the case, Recorder Michael Hayton QC, discharged the jury yesterday.

Hayes, of Crook Road, Kendal, and Henderson, of Woodbank Terrace, Endmoor, both deny the same charge of conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.

The new jury will be sworn in on Monday January 20.
