Melcourt has achieved improved results across its SylvaGrow® and Sylvamix® ranges following its latest Responsible Sourcing Scheme (RSS) audit. Of the 22 product lines assessed, 14 moved up an entire grade, while the average score across the two ranges improved by 6%. New SylvaGrow® Bulb Compost, assessed by the scheme for the first time, achieved an A grade.
The results reflect Melcourt’s continued work to understand, measure and improve the responsible sourcing credentials of the raw materials used within its growing media.
The Responsible Sourcing Scheme provides a framework for assessing the environmental and social impacts associated with growing media raw materials, helping to provide greater transparency around the ingredients used within growing media and their sourcing.
The latest results follow an extensive data and evidence audit process, involving detailed examination of the ingredients used throughout Melcourt’s SylvaGrow and Sylvamix ranges and their associated supply chains.
Melcourt has been peat-free since day one, with a long-standing commitment to developing responsibly sourced growing media for both retail and professional horticulture. Its SylvaGrow® range is developed for gardeners, while Sylvamix® provides specialist growing media for professional horticulture.
Melcourt continues to support greater transparency and responsible sourcing across the growing media industry, using the Responsible Sourcing Scheme as a framework through which the sourcing credentials of its products can be assessed and communicated.
The latest Melcourt scores are published through the Responsible Sourcing Scheme, where further information about the scheme, its assessment criteria and individual growing media ratings can also be found. https://responsiblesourcing.org.uk/
