Severe weather forces garden centres to close

As Storm Babet battered north-east Scotland, several garden centres in the region were forced to close with the area around Brechin particularly suffering from flooding.

Brechin Castle Garden Centre posted on its Facebook page: “Due to the extreme weather conditions, and to ensure the safety of our customers and staff, the centre, coffee shop and country park will be closed today. We will post an update detailing when we will re-open as soon as possible.”

With a red weather warning in place, the garden centre also cancelled its Halloween Treasure Hunt & Pumpkin Pick on Friday and Saturday.

Trinity Garden Centre, also in Brechin, announced on social media that it was closed on Friday.

On its Facebook page, Rossie Braes Garden Centre, near Montrose, announced: “Due to the severity of these weather conditions we feel its best, for safety reasons, to remain closed until this storm has passed. Apologies if this is an inconvenience to anyone. Please stay safe.”

And Glendoick Garden Centre, near Perth, said: “Due to severe weather the Garden Centre and Café will remain closed today.”

Garden centres in Aberdeenshire were affected by power cuts, which forced Ben Reid Garden Centre to close its doors on Friday.

And Parkhill Garden Centre posted on social media: “With the on-going weather we are going to close at 3 pm today. Stay safe.”
