The key to avoiding the panic around supermarkets running out of veg? Grow your own!

Supermarkets are now placing limits on shoppers buying fresh produce lines including salad vegetables to try and prevent empty shelves. Due to the combination of poor weather conditions in Europe and North Africa meaning reduced harvesting, as well as lower supplies from UK producers being hit by the hike in energy bills – we are facing shortages.

So, if you want to avoid stir fries without peppers and salads without tomatoes – growing your own vegetables is certainly the way forward. From cucumbers, salads and tomatoes, to carrots, parsnips and beans, there are so many vegetables that are ideal for growing in your own garden! We want to encourage you to simply pick your favourite varieties and get planning! And Unwins are here to help!

Anyone can grow their own, no matter their gardening knowledge or size of plot. If you’ve got a sunny windowsill, you are part way there already! There are many varieties that can simply be grown in a pot! With over 400 varieties of vegetables to choose from, it’s an extremely rewarding and affordable way to get vegetables into your kitchen!

Salads and herbs as well as Radishes grow extremely fast, and within 3 months, gardeners could have tomatoes, beetroot, carrots, leeks, peas and beans! To get started read our top tips on sowing seeds: https://unwins.co.uk/blogs/advice/how-to-sow-seeds and join our growing community.
