Peat-free takes centre stage at RHS Hampton Court festival
Throughout the week of the RHS Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival, visitors will be able to learn more about the peat as a natural resource, why it’s use in horticulture is being phased out and how to continue to grow the best garden plants.
It’s the focus of The RHS Peat-Free Garden designed by Arit Anderston, created with industry support from Melcourt Industries and a host of growers. A combination of information boards and a garden setting, it provided inspiration and showed how plants grown in peat-free growing media can create an impressive display.
Melcourt’s Dr Victoria Wright, said that from vegetables through to ornamentals, it was a true representation of what can be grown in peat free. “We have supplied mulches, soil conditions and growing media and the garden shows you the diversity of the materials that are peat free, that they can be used in all sorts of situations and give a really lovely finish to the space,” she said. “With water features, sunny spaces and shade, this garden has something for everyone. Not only is it a gorgeous garden, but it's a garden that communicates a really strong story.”
