Garden centre blaze spoils 40th anniversary celebrations
A Cumbrian garden centre, celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, suffered a blaze at the premises on Wednesday. Investigations are continuing to determine whether the incident was arson.
Firefighters tackled the blaze at Larch Cottage Nurseries, in Melkinthorpe, near Penrith, destroying an original potting shed where the business started.
Larch Cottage Nurseries said: “Thankfully no one was hurt, but such a sad way to conclude our 40th year.
“We would like to thank the fire brigade and especially our neighbours for their swift action.”
Crews from Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service were in attendance for about an hour and 45 minutes.
