Sinclair shares suspended on AIM

William Sinclair Holdings PLC said today its shares had been suspended from trading on AIM “pending an announcement”.

The share price had plummeted by more than 85% over the past year to 9.73p.

The suspension follows the news in a statement at the end of June that the company was arranging meetings with investors to gauge demand for a significant share placing. Chairman Rupert King said at the time that progress on a funding solution was needed within a few weeks and “there can be no certainty as to the outcome of any of these discussions”.

Sinclair’s pretax loss increased to £8.6 million in the six months ended March 31, compared with £3.1 million in the corresponding period a year ago. Revenue fell by £3 million to £18.7 million.

Reasons given for the company’s worsening economic situation include the costs associasted with moving to the new £50 million manufacturing site at Ellesmere Port and poorer than expected trading.

It is not clear when a new funding announcement can be expected but some sources believe it could be later today.

Will Christmas 2015 be another highlight?

As GTN’s team of experts hit the road again for The Greatest Outdoor Living and Gardening Sales Awards, garden centres are taking their first deliveries for Christmas 2015. Several stores have already received their supply of artificial trees, which is a big relief as many tree deliveries were late last year.

With GTN’s Bestsellers All Products Index running at almost level year-on-year for volume sales it’s all down to Christmas to push that running total up into positive territory before the year end.

Last year the GTN Bestsellers Christmas Products Top 50 Chart tracked 17% down on 2014 sales volumes and down over 30% on the Christmas highs of 2011 and 2012.

How do you think Christmas 2015 will trade?  Will the consumer confidence that has seen many record outdoor living sales and record plant sales continue into the buying of baubles, trees and lights? Are you making conscious decisions to include more home and giftware in your Christmas displays? Your customers are after all decorating their home and garden for the festive season so there is plenty of opportunity for extra sales.

GTN Bestsellers Top 50 sales volumes compared to the same week last year...
  • Garden Products – down 12%
  • Veg-2-Gro Products – up 6%
  • Growing Media – up 2%
  • All items index – up 7%
