Interest in Grow Your Own continues ahead of last year and sales volumes are indicating that gardeners are harvesting crops and starting to prepare for autumn planting.
This week’s GTN Bestsellers chart sales volumes continue the overlying trend of being up 10% or more each week since the weather improved after Easter.
Autumn Planting Seed Potatoes from Taylors Bulbs remain at the top of the GTN Bestsellers Veg 2 Gro chart with Duke of York the most popular variety, followed by Maris Peer.
Following on from the seed spuds are winter greens and autumn planting onions. Spinach plants from Quantil are the biggest chart mover, up 26 places.
Highest chart re-entry this week are Leeks F1 Verina from Gardeners Kitchen and the highest new entry is onion seeds from Suttons – North Holland Redmate.
Mr Fothergills have a new entry with Chive seeds, one of seven herb lines in the Top 50 – perhaps hopes of a long hot September is driving thoughts of more garden barbecue parties.
How are your plans for a Veg show this Autumn? It’s a great way to generate more interest in Grow Your Own and is a great crowd puller too.
