GTN Xtra has learned that barbecue company Swiss Grill have instructed London chartered accountants and insolvency practitioners Singla & Co to convene a creditors' meeting with a view to putting the company into voluntary liquidation. 

We understand that the creditors' meeting is due to take place at Singla's offices in London on December 30.

The news comes as a shock to the outdoor leisure industry after Swiss Grill had recruited former Weber boss John Cooper as their Managing Director earlier this year.

The company had a major presence at SOLEX at the NEC in July with John Cooper saying at the time: "I took this new role at Swiss Grill because I think the company has got great potential. It's a great brand as the name alone conjures up quality, professionalism and outdoor living. There is so much opportunity."

GTN Xtra tried to contact Swiss Grill and the Singla & Co but no one was available for comment.
