Mental health provider takes over garden centre

Mental health service provider Navigo has set its sights on growth after taking over the Grimsby Garden Centre.

The community interest company based in Grimsby has become the new owners of the site off the A46 near Laceby – with big plans ahead for the Christmas season.

The keys to the centre were handed over in a special ceremony to usher in a new era for the popular site.

Jo Keen, spokesperson for Navigo and lead on the organisation's new venture, said: "We are incredibly excited about the prospects that owning Grimsby Garden Centre will bring to us."

"We are grasping this opportunity with both hands and plans for an incredible Christmas are underway.

"Keep your eyes peeled. We will be holding a launch event very soon with the opportunity for a free voucher to spend in the cafe for everyone."

The centre is a huge stockist of plants, tools, equipment and gardening advice, as well as fashion, gifts and home-cooked food.

The store includes Maidenhead Aquatics, the UK's leading fish-keeping suppliers, high market names such as Edinburgh Woollen Mill, Town and Country, Burgon and Ball, Jalouise and Yankee Candle as well as the popular Cafe Blu, a favoured local venue for home- cooked food, fabulous fish and chips, carvery and cakes.

The team at the garden centre have said a fond farewell to the former owners, Peter and Dee Skibar.

A statement from the former owners said: "We are very pleased that our employees and customers will have the opportunity to be part of the new owner's plans for the garden centre.

"Navigo have a strong commitment to taking the centre forward with lots of new ideas.

"We would like to extend a warm thanks to our team for all of their invaluable hard work over the years, which has been the key to our success.

"We would like also to thank all our past and present customers and friends and hope they will continue to support and enjoy Grimsby Garden Centre in the future.

"We are happy in the knowledge that our efforts will be appreciated in years to come and wish Navigo all the best for the future."
