Young People in Horticulture Association gather to swap ideas

More than 60 members of the Young People in Horticulture Association (YPHA) gathered at Coolings Garden Centre in Kent this week to swap ideas, network and be inspired by talks and a nursery visit.

It’s only the third time in as many years that the organisation, , has been able to bring together members from all sectors of horticulture spanning garden design, plant production and retailing.

Sarah Want, Team Manager at MorePeople and on the YPHA committee, said: “This is a great opportunity to see just how many people are enthusiastic about the industry and how, for them, it’s more than just a job. I’ve seen lots of collaboration especially for those that are self-employed who can reach out and share ideas.”

Sarah added that being a member of the association has enabled her to have better insight into the industry and brought benefits to her role of recruiting for opportunities in horticulture.

Included in the day was a walk through the growing facilities at Coolings Nursery by Ian Hazon, Operations and Production Director and an inspiring talk from garden designer Adam Frost.

The YHPA is now working on another event in September details of which are yet to be confirmed. Membership is free and it currently has 375 members with sights on welcoming another 25 so it can reach 400. If anyone is interested in joining visit www.ypha.com for more details.
