Blue Diamond's Harlestone Heath Garden Centre in Northampton re-opened yesterday, with customers pouring into the centre and shopping it heavily.

Having taken over the centre that was closed by Dobbies, Blue Diamond CEO told GTN Xtra they had invested £1.5m in the site to bring it up to Blue Diamond standards. "We've cleaned, painted over the old Wyevale green, replaced fences, builtinternal walls to create the customer journey and doubled the size of the restaurant and kitchen."
The restuarant has been named "The Ramblers Rest" in recognition of the areas parkland and walking community.
The re-lined carpark was full when we arrived late morning and still full mid-afternoon, with high sales activity and plenty of appreciative remarks being made to staff by customers.
"We've not done any advertising so far for this opening," said Alan Roper, "this is just as a result of local press coverage and social media."
Alan projects Harlestone Heath will become an £8m turnover centre as part of the group, a significant change from the £2.5m that Dobbies were acheiving.

British Garden Centres is creating a show garden, working with renowned garden designer Pip Probert, to raise awareness for Greenfingers Charity at the Harrogate Spring Flower Show next month.
The ‘British Garden Centres Butterfly Garden’ will be a serene and contemplative space designed to raise awareness for Greenfingers Charity. The garden is 5x5m (25m²) and will educate visitors on the invaluable work Greenfingers does in creating beautiful outdoor spaces for life-limited children and their families who spend time in hospices around the UK. These gardens offer an escape, a place for play, therapeutic rest, and a place to create memories. With almost 70 gardens already established and a growing waiting list, Greenfingers’ mission to provide these invaluable spaces is more critical than ever.
The 'British Garden Centres Butterfly Garden' is designed by Pip Probert, an expert garden designer with an impressive portfolio of 43 show gardens, including RHS shows, Gardening Scotland, the Ascot Spring Garden Show, and international exhibitions like the Istanbul Flower Show and the Horticultural Expo Beijing.
The garden offers a respite for families to sit, chat, and reflect whilst connecting with nature. The back fence, wrapping around the corners of the garden, is a symbol of arms embracing the occupant, providing a sense of comfort and protection. Two raised beds at the back of the garden will elevate the planting, creating layers of colour and visual interest to attract the eyes of the show visitors.
At the heart of the garden lies an arbour seat, serving as a focal point, inviting people to pause and contemplate. Surrounding the arbour will be a selection of plants from British Garden Centres, contained by sett edging. A gravel path winds through the garden, leading to a fire pit and four lounge chairs, offering seating options for relaxation and the option for families to come together.
The planting scheme is a key feature of the garden, designed to attract both people and butterflies with a range of colours and flower heads. The borders are filled with a mix of plants, complemented by gravel planting to soften the overall look. A wooden archway marks the entrance, welcoming visitors into this butterfly haven. Two feature shrubs strategically placed will balance the composition and add height to the garden.

All plants used in the Butterfly Garden will be available to purchase from the British Garden Centres stand, with a team of experts on hand with gardening advice and how to replicate the look at home.
Pip Probert said about the design: "The 'British Garden Centres Butterfly Garden' is designed to be a sanctuary, a place where families can find peace and solace. I have carefully considered the garden’s layout and planting to create a sense of enclosure and comfort, reflecting the environment that Greenfingers provides in their hospice gardens for children."
James Ducker, Events Manager at British Garden Centres, said: "We are incredibly proud to partner with both Pip Probert and raise awareness of Greenfingers Charity's remarkable work. We hope the Butterfly Garden will inspire visitors to support Greenfingers and recognise the profound impact these gardens have on families facing unimaginable challenges."
Linda Petrons, Director of Fundraising and Communications at Greenfingers, added: “We're extremely grateful for British Garden Centres’ support at Harrogate Flower Show to help raise awareness of Greenfingers. The garden designed by Pip Probert has beautifully showcased our important work and has highlighted what we do as a charity. Thanks to British Garden Centres, Pip, and we look forward to welcoming visitors over the show weekend.”
If you wish to donate to Greenfingers’ work, there will be options to do so at the show. For more information on Greenfingers Charity and its work, visit www.greenfingerscharity.org.uk or email linda@greenfingerscharity.org.uk

Thetford Garden Centre has announced the completion of a significant development project, originally set to begin in 2020, now successfully finished on schedule.
Phase one, completed just before Christmas, included a side extension to the building, creating new offices, a modern meeting room, staff toilets, and a high-quality staff room featuring a patio area. This expansion also allowed for an increase in shop-floor space, enabling the Centre to offer a broader selection of garden tools, gloves, and footwear.

With phase one complete, phase two commenced in early January. This phase involved expanding the customer restroom facilities by repurposing the old offices and adding another extension to create a larger storage area for the restaurant, Lime Kiln Kitchen, as well as a brand-new bakery and development kitchen. The Food Department has also seen substantial growth, introducing dozens of exciting new product ranges with a focus on local suppliers and fellow B-Corps, including increased ranges of chiller and frozen produce.

Lucy Nixon, Managing Director, commented on the developments: “Each phase of this project has been essential and long overdue. We initially planned to start construction in 2020, but the global pandemic delayed our timeline. It has taken several years for the business to recover, and we are thrilled to finally invest in these much-needed improvements.”
“Our previous staff room was inadequate, and we are pleased to now offer a space that everyone values and utilizes, fostering increased social interactions among our teams. Additionally, our customer toilets have been upgraded to a high standard, perfectly complementing Lime Kiln Kitchen. We dedicated considerable time to designing the décor, and we hope our customers will love it—many still ask about the wallpaper from the restaurant that opened in 2017!”
With the introduction of the new bakery, Lime Kiln Kitchen will now produce all its cakes, traybakes, and desserts in-house, with plans to offer pre-ordered celebration cakes and catering services in the future. Lucy added, “We have always strived to make as much as possible in-house, but our previous kitchen size limited our production capabilities. While we sourced high-quality cakes, nothing compares to homemade. Now, we can create exceptional cakes in generous portions that we believe our customers will truly enjoy.”
To celebrate the completion of these developments, Thetford Garden Centre will host a ‘Celebration of Food’ on Friday 28th March, 5pm – 8pm, featuring a variety of food and drink suppliers offering tastings, along with an ‘Unlimited Cake Club’ in Lime Kiln Kitchen.

The Barometer of Trade figures released by the Garden Centre Association for February show members did the best in non-gardening categories.
When compared with the same month in 2024, data from GCA garden centres show five of the 13 categories recorded performed well with catering once again leading the way at +8.15%.
Peter Burks, GCA CEO explains: “February was a difficult month for our members, as cold, dull, damp weather kept people firmly inside and away from their gardens. However, the usual wet weather categories all performed very well, meaning the overall year-to-date variance was still positive at +1.53%.
“Fortunately, the rain wasn’t anywhere near as heavy as last February, so hopefully gardens are now nice and dry, and this will be encouraging people to get going now on some spring projects.
“Hardly anyone did any gardening at all across last year and the 2024 spring season was a complete wash out, so we’re anticipating a great deal of pent-up demand for our members to tap into in March onwards this year, especially as short-range weather forecasts currently look good.
“Gifts came in second in February when likened to last year, up +7.34%, clothing was next with +4.65%, then food hall/farm shop in third place with +4.41% and in at number five was houseplants doing well at +2.21%.
“Pets & aquatics came in sixth position at -1.63%, then hard landscaping at -3.57%, followed by furniture & BBQs at -5.53% and seeds and bulbs at -7.14%.
“Garden sundries showing -7.38%, when compared to the same month in 2024, came next and then miscellaneous at -13.07% with outdoor plants down by -14.05%. Leaving Christmas in an understandable last place for this time of year at -43.9%.”
The GCA BoT reports are compiled using actual sales figures and provide an up-to-date trading position statement. They are made available mid-month following the end of the prior month after all member garden centres have submitted their results.
The BoT allows members to compare their trading positions with other centres.

Blue Diamond funds planting of over 200 oak trees

Blue Diamond Garden Centres has funded the planting of over 200 oak trees and their tree guards at National Trust's Croft Castle. Recently, the teams from both organisations gathered at Croft to celebrate this remarkable achievement.
These new trees will reinstate the lost former oak avenue, which formed the original entrance approach to Croft. This will emphasise and celebrate the significance of the parkland design and heritage, as well as contribute to the legacy of Croft's veteran trees and establish the next generation of ancient trees at Croft.

The trees have been planted by Croft Castle’s rangers and their volunteer teams. The sweet chestnut tree guards, made with timber from National Trust Herefordshire’s own woodlands at Pengethley, will protect the trees from livestock.

The veteran, dead, and dying trees of the original Spanish chestnut avenue (pictured above) sit closely to this newly created avenue. They are not only beautiful but also provide wonderful habitats for a wide variety of nature.
Hugh Warwick, Countryside Manager – National Trust Herefordshire said: "We're so excited to be able to restore this missing piece of Croft's designed landscape, especially at a time when planting trees is so important to mitigate the challenges of climate change. Through their lives these trees could sequester enough carbon to offset driving to the moon 1000 times. They will also provide habitat for the myriad creatures which currently call our veteran oak and sweet chestnut trees home, offering fantastic continuity of habitat as they mature. We've chosen to plant a mix of pedunculate and sessile oak, giving this avenue the best chance of surviving whatever changes climate change may bring in the coming centuries."
Croft is home to the largest collection of ancient trees in western Europe.

Theo Paphitis, Robert Dyas owner, with journalists and social media influencers at its Plant & Pause launch in London this week.
Robert Dyas, with 92 stores on UK high streets, has kick started the spring season with new products and the relaunch, for the third time, of its Plant & Pause initiative.
Donna Jackson, Marketing Manager, says Plant & Pause, has been a great success in capturing the imagination of and engaging with customers. “It's not just about buying a gardening product and sending customers on their way. We wanted to create an initiative to get people out into their gardens and enjoy them.”
Donna explains that in the first year, via social media, thousands of people shared photographs of their gardens, and how they used them to relax or spend their time.
Year two expanded the concept by celebrating gardening as a shared experience through Your Community Space, and the call for entries for this year has now gone out. Gardeners are being asked to nominate an unloved piece of land or area that could be transformed through gardening and a boost of £2500 of products from Robert Dyas. The winner in 2024, was St George’s Hospital, Dementia Ward in Tooting, London.
Showing off a range of products was Alison from Wildlife World, who says the range of its products chosen by the retailer for its e-commerce site combine function and form. “Robert Dyas is looking for value and longevity. They are not fashion products that will disintegrate in two years but will last in the garden for five to ten years.” Its Shenstone Theatre Bird Bath and Drinker is a particular favourite as it’s made from Clayplas ( a blend of concrete and plastic) and comes with a 10-year structural guarantee.

For high street sales, the range of Miracle Gro products, is chosen for being easy-to-carry. The All-Purpose Liquid Concentrate in 800ml bottle is a best seller and new this year is a 500gram box of lawn seed. “Robert Dyas wants brand leaders within its range, as well as convenience and products for traditional customers so it’s trying to cover all bases. Also, products need to cater for those with smaller gardens,” says Phil Park, Evergreen Business Development Manager. He adds that Evergreen and Robert Dyas are always looking at new ideas, one of which could be a display box for growing media, similar to those used for free newspapers.

On behalf of Ronseal, Lewis Burgess, Territory Sales Manager with Sherwin-Williams explains that its new 950ml pouch of concentrated One Coat Shed & Fence Protector launched in January, uses 90% less plastic than the tub. Coming in 20% cheaper than the tub, the idea is that customers refill the tub with the pouch, add four litres of water and give it a good stir. “Theoretically, if you are going to pain 18 fence panels, you would buy one tub and two pouches,” says Lewis. Benefits aren’t just in less plastic packaging, retailers can also get more pouches in a footprint. When it comes to delivery, one pallet can fit 120 tubs or 460 pouches illustrating efficiencies in transport.

Hannah Beckwith, Trading Controller and Hannah Ing, Marketing Coordinator from Smart Garden Products were on hand to promote and get feedback from popular and new lines it sells through Robert Dyas, which is a key strategic partner. Smart’s constant new product development is a big plus and ensure interest in products and sales remains hight. “It’s good for Robert Dyas to showcase that it’s not just about kettles and toasters. A lot of Smart’s products are impulse purchase with an accessible price point. They are an extension of your design within the house that go into the garden and we're a great one stop shop as well because our range income encompasses everything from solar, to bird care, core garden water features and fire pits, so we have a bit of everything. The smart philosophy has always been great product, great price,” says Hanna Beckwith.

Grow-your-own gardening expert, Huw Richards, has teamed up with GARDENA to launch a search for Britain’s best plot.
Top of the Plots celebrates the best in ‘grow your own’ culture and gardening greatness, from the perfect plot to windowsill wonders and children's prizes.
GARDENA, Europe’s number one watering and hand tools brand, has launched the competition with the support of The National Allotment Society and £1,000 worth of products and RHS vouchers to help your garden space flourish.
Head judge Huw, the Sunday Times best-selling author and grow-your-own expert, kicked off the contest with a gardening masterclass at Bents Garden & Home in Warrington, Cheshire, on Saturday (March 22).
As the demand for allotments and plots booms across the UK, Top of the Plots will shine a spotlight on the passion, skill and achievements of the country’s incredible group of growers.
Sustainable living and food security, combined with the proven physical and mental well-being benefits, have resulted in home and community gardening becoming more relevant than ever.
From May 19, green-fingered gardeners can enter Top of the Plots by submitting photos and descriptions of their plots or allotments via email, with the selected category.

The competition is open to gardeners of all levels - from high-rise flats to horticulture gardens - and aims to celebrate the diversity, creativity, and resilience of the UK’s growing community.
The main awards include Best Allotment - the finest plot in an official allotment space, Best Garden Plot - the top home garden or backyard plot, and Best New Plot - a plot started in the past 12 months, judged on seasonal progress and performance.
From these categories, the overall winner will be crowned Plot of the Year.
Additionally, recognitions will be given for Kids on the Plot, Best Small Plot - such as a windowsill garden, Biodiversity on the Plot, and Best Community Plot.
The main competition prize is £1,000 worth of GARDENA products and gardening vouchers for plants and sundries, as well as a coveted champion’s plaque. The first 100 entrants will also receive exclusive Top of the Plots merchandise.
Mike Farrell, Chairman of the National Allotment Society, said: “Allotments have been at the heart of communities for generations, providing food security, a place to connect, and a way to care for the environment. Top of the Plots is a brilliant way to highlight their importance.
“At the National Allotment Society, we know how vital these spaces are - not just for food, but for mental well-being, education, and social connection. We’re excited to support this initiative and see the incredible plots from across the country.”
Head judge, Huw Richards, GARDENA Ambassador with more than 850,000 YouTube subscribers, said: “This competition isn’t just about finding the best plots, it’s about inspiring more people to take up growing, whether on an allotment, in a garden, or even on a windowsill. Everyone can be a grower.
“Whether you’re a seasoned gardener or just starting out, this competition is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the joy of cultivating your produce and connecting with nature.”
GARDENA and the National Allotment Society invite all gardening enthusiasts to take part and celebrate the power of growing their own food, fostering biodiversity, and creating beautiful, sustainable plots.

Urban paradise celebrates 25 years of growth and community

Hulme Community Garden Centre (HCGC), a cherished green haven in the heart of Manchester, will hold a special celebration to mark its 25th anniversary. Taking place on Saturday, 5th July, this milestone event promises a day filled with festivities, community spirit, and reflection on a quarter-century of growth, learning, and connection...

Hulme Community Garden Centre (HCGC), a cherished green haven in the heart of Manchester, will hold a special celebration to mark its 25th anniversary. Taking place on Saturday, 5th July, this milestone event promises a day filled with festivities, community spirit, and reflection on a quarter-century of growth, learning, and connection.
Since its founding in 2000, HCGC has transformed an area of scrubland ~ and later a car park ~ into a flourishing public green space. The centre has grown into an inclusive community hub, promoting healthy living through gardening, sustainable food growing, and education.
Over the years, HCGC has welcomed over 10,000 visitors annually and has become a sanctuary for people and wildlife alike ~ it was the only garden centre in the north west that operated during the pandemic.*
This two-acre site stocks a wide range of plants, from tiny alpines to specimen trees as well as perennials and wildlife-friendly pond plants. The in-house nursery propagates and sells herbs, vegetables and fruit ~ all organic and peat-free. The centre also offers handmade garden items crafted from reclaimed materials by volunteers, including bird boxes and planters. HCGC actively promotes sustainable and organic practices, reducing plastic use, recycling whenever possible, and sourcing plants grown in organic, peat-free compost.
Tim Knight, HCGC’s Plant Sales Manager, said: “Our garden centre has something for every space, whether it’s a tiny balcony, a shady courtyard, or a large outdoor garden. We’re passionate about sourcing plants from local, environmentally conscious nurseries and offering a wide range of native flowers, shrubs, and trees to support wildlife. Growing food is at the heart of what we do, so we provide a great selection of herbs, vegetables, and fruit trees to help our community become more self-sufficient. Alongside our plants, our shop is stocked with houseplants, gardening essentials, and eco-friendly products ~ everything you need to create and enjoy your own green space.”
As a champion of inclusivity and community wellbeing, HCGC's volunteer and education hub offers daily sessions that provide opportunities for parents, toddlers, adults with disabilities, beginner gardeners, and anyone seeking to connect with nature. Over 25% of HCGC's volunteers have physical or mental health needs, making it a truly inclusive and supportive space. These community volunteers have gained new skills and forged new friendships, becoming happier, healthier, more confident and part of a supportive community of horticultural heroes!
The special event on Saturday 5th July will celebrate the achievements of HCGC and its amazing volunteers, whose tireless dedication has created a safe, inclusive, and inspiring space. Attendees can look forward to a day packed with fun activities for all ages, including tours of the centre’s stunning green oasis. There will be engaging talks and workshops reflecting on Hulme Community Garden Centre’s rich history and its exciting vision for the future. Guests will also have the chance to meet and celebrate with the incredible volunteers who have been the heart and soul of HCGC over the years. All of this will take place in a vibrant community atmosphere, buzzing with music, delicious food, and plenty of laughter.

Gianetta Grainger, HCGC’s Project Manager, said: "Reaching 25 years is a huge milestone for us. Hulme Community Garden Centre has always been more than just a green space ~ it’s a place where people grow as much as the plants! We're a garden centre with a difference that make a difference to peoples lives. This anniversary, and the build up towards it, is a celebration of everything we’ve achieved together as a community and a reflection of our mission to connect people with nature. We can’t wait to welcome everyone on 5th July to celebrate what makes this place so special."
"The recent developments on site, with support from the Greater Manchester Environment Fund and Green Spaces has allowed us to enhance our fabulous space, offering more opportunities for learning through play. This has helped us to continue and complete on major improvements and additions to our 2020 successful community share fund-raise; with generous support from a wide range of community groups, local businesses and many individuals wanting to be part of, and to invest in this fabulous project.
"Our new-build brings so many benefits to so many and will help the garden centre survive through these difficult times. Many independent garden centres are sadly closing. Through the hard-work and dedication of our team, our army of volunteers and continued support from the community, the garden centre continues to flourish and our wildlife will have a safe haven in the heart of the city. We are proud to be guardians of our green spaces, and this, ‘hidden green oasis’ is for us all to share."

So, save the date and join in the fun on Saturday, 5th July, to celebrate 25 years of Hulme Community Garden Centre ~ a unique urban paradise that has become the heart of its community. In the meantime, for anyone who simply wants to have a look round ~ or buy some plants, gifts, or sit with a cup of coffee amongst the greenery ~ HCGC is open seven days a week: Monday to Saturdays between 10am-5pm and on Sundays and Bank Holidays between 10.30am-4.30pm.

Topiarists and horticultural professionals across the UK and Europe are invited to showcase their craftsmanship in the Henchman Topiary Awards 2025.
Following the success of last year’s inaugural competition, garden ladder specialist Henchmanhas announced the return of its Topiary Awards – with an expansion to include entries from across Europe for the first time, marking a significant step forward in its growth.
Launching on 20th March 2025, the Henchman Topiary Awards recognises excellence in topiary, celebrating those who demonstrate outstanding craftsmanship, creativity and passion for sculpting foliage into living works of art. The competition will once again feature two categories – Best Professional Topiary, for experienced topiarists and horticultural professionals and Best Home Garden Creation, for passionate amateur gardeners. Each category will have separate winners for the UK and Europe, with prizes up for grabs in both regions.
In response to the overwhelming enthusiasm from 2024, Henchman has expanded the awards to include Europe’s topiary artists, offering a broader platform for talented gardeners from across the continent to showcase their work. A distinguished panel of industry experts will judge the entries, including returning judges Andy Bourke, professional topiarist and influencer better known as ‘The Hedge Barber’ and Michael Buck, Head of Horticulture at Creepers Nursery. They will be joined by new judges Petra Hoyer Millar, Editor of The Dirt News and runner up in last year's Home Gardener category, and Patrick Salembier, President of EBTS France and organiser of World Topiary Day at Levens Hall.
The winners in each category will receive a Henchman ladder of their choice, enabling them to continue refining their craft with the best tools available. The results will be announced at RHS Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival on Saturday 5th July 2025.
Last year’s competition saw over 75 entrants from highly skilled topiarists. Harrie Carnochan from West Sussex took first place in the Professional Gardener category for his precisely sculpted and symmetrical designs, while David Hawson from Aberdeenshire won the Home Gardener category with his intricate hedge scene of countryside and marine creatures, inspired by Moby Dick.
Owen Simpson, Managing Director at Henchman, said: "The incredible passion and talent we saw in last year’s competition inspired us to expand the awards into Europe. Topiary is a centuries-old craft that continues to evolve, and we are excited to celebrate the professionals and home gardeners pushing the boundaries of this unique art form."
Submissions are open from 20th March and close on 31st May 2025. Entrants can submit photographs and a brief description of their topiary work at https://www.henchman.co.uk/pages/henchman-topiary-awards.

On Global Recycling Day, the Horticultural Trades Association celebrates the industry's progress towards greater recyclability across the supply chain but stresses the importance of a well-managed implementation of the Simpler Recycling scheme.
The Simpler Recycling legislation is enacted on 31 March 2025 for non-household premises, offering a positive opportunity to solve current recycling issues for businesses. Simpler Recycling means companies will need separate bins for food, dry mixed recycling, glass, and general waste for collection.
The scheme aims to increase the quantity of materials collected for recycling and the quality of the recycled items that are subsequently produced due to improvements in how recyclables are separated.
The HTA has worked hard to gain clarity from Defra, allowing recyclable plant pots to be collected from businesses and households. This announcement was made in August 2024 following a successful campaign. However, the HTA continues to push to ensure the correct procedures and communications are delivered for households before March 2026.
Liz Williams, Sustainability Executive, HTA said: “The move to recyclable non-black pots was the first step, and a lot of work has been done with other take-back schemes. However, the change to Simpler Recycling legislation gives the biggest opportunity to solve the issue of wider collection. The HTA’s next steps are to liaise with recycling charities, such as Recoup, waste management companies and local authorities to provide an understanding of the value of the materials used in the horticulture sector. This would hopefully bring an end to fully recyclable pots slowly degrading in landfills.”

AIPH approves GreenItaly 2025
The International Association of Horticultural Producers (AIPH) has approved GreenItaly, an international horticultural exhibition from 15 to 17 October 2025, highlighting the best in sustainable and innovative horticulture...

The International Association of Horticultural Producers (AIPH) has approved GreenItaly, an international horticultural exhibition from 15 to 17 October 2025, highlighting the best in sustainable and innovative horticulture.
The approval for GreenItaly 2025, granted by AIPH Members during the AIPH Spring Meeting 2025 in Thailand, underscores the event’s international significance. Commenting on the decision, AIPH Secretary General Tim Briercliffe stated, “AIPH Members are delighted to approve GreenItaly as an International Horticultural Trade Expo. We look forward to seeing this event thrive and contribute to the future of horticulture.”
Italian International Trade Expo for Horticulture
It will take place at the PalaVerdi convention centre, which is unlike a conventional exhibition hall, as it serves as an actual theatre space, providing a stage to showcase the best in horticulture and urban greenery. The unique setting will provide exhibitors and visitors with a dynamic and immersive experience, boasting a total exhibition area of 17,000 m², including a plenary space of 4,000 m², add to this an expansive stage area of 400 m² and a ceiling height of 24 metres; there is plenty of room and space to accommodate the expected 8,000 professional visitors.
A Dedicated Event for Urban Greenery
GreenItaly 2025 will be showcasing urban greenery and the nursery production of ornamental plants for parks, gardens, and tree-lined avenues. Collaborating with the international horticultural industry is crucial, and the endorsement from AIPH highlights this commitment. This recognition enhances the event's global profile and solidifies its role as an important gathering for the horticultural trade, offering exhibitors increased visibility and valuable industry connections. It will serve as a global platform for industry leaders, growers, and stakeholders to share knowledge, demonstrate best practices, and celebrate advancements in sustainable horticulture. With a strong emphasis on environmental responsibility, innovation, and economic impact, the event aligns perfectly with AIPH’s mission to promote the power of plants in creating a greener, healthier world.
GreenItaly’s Role in Industry Communications
Organised by trade show specialist Fiera di Parma, a key feature of GreenItaly 2025 is its strong alignment with urban sustainability and nature restoration. The event will host discussions on how green spaces contribute to ecological networks, mitigate CO2 emissions, and enhance urban resilience. Curated by Fiere di Parma is the Green Agorà initiative, a year-round seminar and networking series that will complement the exhibition with expert insights on nature restoration and the role of greenery in sustainable cities. Previous Green Agorà sessions have brought together policymakers, researchers, and industry leaders to address the evolving challenges and opportunities in urban green development. As a further contribution to the international horticultural community, Lineaverde, a bilingual, online magazine providing a comprehensive overview of the European floriculture industry, is a media partner, reinforcing GreenItaly’s information and networking hub role.
Strengthening the Future of Horticulture
GreenItaly 2025 will be the ideal exhibition for designers, builders, and green space managers, providing access to a wide range of plants, furnishings, technical tools, technologies, and machinery for ornamental plant cultivation and green space creation and management. Looking ahead, GreenItaly aims to strengthen the ornamental green supply chain, enhance Italian excellence internationally, and drive growth in the value and volume of traded products. AIPH's endorsement of GreenItaly 2025 is a testament to the event's credibility and importance in the horticultural industry.

Highly anticipated second Radley X RHS collection launches
After the success of their first collaboration in 2024, the Royal Horticultural Society and Radley have announced the arrival of their second special-edition collection of handbags and accessories, featuring brand-new items and designs...

After the success of their first collaboration in 2024, the Royal Horticultural Society and Radley have announced the arrival of their second special-edition collection of handbags and accessories, featuring brand-new items and designs.
Abloom with plants and flowers, the styles feature florals based on illustrations found in the RHS Lindley Collections – and take inspiration from one delightful source in particular: a beautiful 19th century children’s publication called The Alphabet of Flowers.
Published by Dean & Son in London in the 1850s, The Alphabet of Flowers is a children's alphabet in which each page is devoted to one letter – except for X, Y and Z, which are combined – along with a gorgeous flower illustration.
The illustrations in the book are reflected in Radley’s intricately crafted leather designs that feature appliqué, embossing and screen printing to bring to life the water iris, rose, lily, dahlia and more. And there’s a delightful extra touch by the Radley design team: the illustrations have been adapted to spell out the word ‘Radley’.
The new Radley X RHS collection is a celebration of the charity’s beautiful gardens and historical archives and includes superbly crafted leather bags, cross body phone holders, canvas totes, a card holder and even a handbag umbrella. This highly anticipated second Radley X RHS Collection was launched on 10 March and is available at Radley’s stores in London and Glasgow, online and at a number of well-known retailers and independent stockists.
Radley have been proud architects of luxurious British handbags and accessories for over 25 years and known for their leather expertise and enduring quality. Radley’s in-house design team are inspired by the natural world and expertly blend iconic design and exquisite craftsmanship.
Radley’s Chief Brand Officer Jackie Hay says: “Our customers adored the first Radley X RHS collection and are already responding with great enthusiasm to this gorgeous new range. The RHS brand and resources have once again collaborated with Radley’s design skills to create a floral-inspired collection that is distinctive and unique.”
Cathy Snow, RHS Licensing Manager, adds: “Given that the first Radley X RHS Collection was a sell-out success, it’s no surprise that a strong buzz has been generated around this eagerly awaited new range. The partnership has once more delivered high quality and craftsmanship combined with a gloriously original design which is already enjoying an amazing consumer response. We’re delighted to be again partnering with this industry-leading fashion name.”

Dobbies have unveiled a new strategic and creative platform, 'This Is Garden Living', to drive year-round footfall.
The new approach, developed in partnership with creative agency elvis, is Dobbies’ first long-term brand platform, designed to evolve and grow over the seasons and years. Signalling a shift from seasonal campaigns, the campaign will replace Dobbies’ previous spring-focussed approach with an all-year-round strategy that spans the gardening calendar.
The creative direction is brought to life for the spring / summer season across digital out-of-home, radio, digital, social, and in-store channels, and is live from Thursday 20 March – the first day of Spring.
'This Is Garden Living' defines what garden living looks like across different seasons, cultural moments, and product categories, leaning on Dobbies reputation for providing quality products, expert advice, inspiring in-store experiences, and accessible price points.

Created primarily to drive footfall, the campaign is built on insight from elvis, which found that while people feel relaxed in their outdoor spaces, relaxation means more than simply sitting back. Whether it’s growing plants and flowers, watching wildlife, harvesting homegrown produce, cooking, playing, or entertaining friends and family, ‘garden living’ is as diverse as the people who enjoy it.
Kirsty Rockey, Head of Brand, Dobbies Garden Centres, said: “When we came to develop our new strategic and creative platform, we saw a real opportunity to make the concept of ‘garden living’ our own.
“It’s more than just gardening, it’s about creating a space to relax, connect, and enjoy life. The team has done a brilliant job of bringing this to life with a platform that’s both inspiring and relevant. ‘This Is Garden Living’ perfectly captures what gives Dobbies relevance, and why people keep coming back to us.”
The campaign is supported by media planning and buying from EssenceMediacom, PPC by Clean Digital, and PR by Frame.

Hundreds of customers braved the cold winds to queue around the car park at Rugby Garden Centre on Saturday, waiting for the official re-opening under new ownership of British Garden Centres.
Gardening TV personality David Domoney carried out the ribbon cutting ceremony, allowing the queuing customers into the centre to see efforts of a four week turn around at the site.
By 10:30am customers were streaming through the tills with trolleys full of plants and products, the restaurant was almost full of happy customers and the new Outdoor Living showroom (in a section of the centre that Dobbies had closed off) was busy taking orders for furniture and bbq’s.

Many customers commented on how good it was to see the centre back to how it was when it was a Blooms Garden Centre, saying the choice of plants and products was very good and the prices were good too.

Five weeks of cleaning, clearing, re-flooring, creating a new restaurant atmosphere, moving the exit and tills, recruiting extra staff, plus almost £2m of stock have seen the re-energised Woodlands Garden Centre trade for two weeks now at amazing levels.
Gates owner, Nigel Gates, told GTN Xtra at the weekend: “The business of the centre amazes me already with days takings getting very close to days back at Cold Overton.”
“Moving the tills and exit so that people have to walk through the food hall has resulted in many more food hall sales than we expected.”
Garden centre team members have received many positive comments from customers regarding dogs not being allowed in the centre a decision that has caused a social media storm in the area. Judging by the number of people eating in the restaurant (which is now cook to order) and shopping on Saturday afternoon, the decision appears to have been well received by the majority of customers.

From waving off the walkers in the South to welcoming the North walkers back I have been humbled and grateful for the support and enthusiasm everyone has shown for Garden Re-Leaf Day 2025.
“This day back in 2011 I came up with the idea for Garden Re-Leaf Day and I had no idea that it would become such a feature of the industry calendar and go on to raise over £1million, and counting, for charity!
“Thank you to everyone that has baked cakes, held quizzes, walked, run, cycled, had planting marathons and run raffles. You have all been amazing and been great FUNdraisers"
Linda Petrons added: "With 63 walkers, 3 runners, and 2 cyclists setting off from Tring Garden Centre, alongside 14 walkers leaving the Pickled Pheasant in Holmfirth, Garden-Leaf Day 2025 has been another great success!
"It has been a sunshiny day of networking and fundraising to once make a real difference to life-limited children and families who rely on the care of hospices across the UK.
“In addition to the walks and cycle rides, garden centres and countless others came together, ensuring that this special day remains a standout event on the horticultural calendar.
“We are enormously grateful to our industry friends for embracing the floral spirit and raising essential funds to support the work of Greenfingers. Of course, none of this would have been possible without the incredible efforts of volunteers who helped make these events, up and down the country, an unforgettable triumph. Thank you for being part of something truly meaningful!"
