Colegrave Seabrook Foundation students presented with awards at BBC Gardeners World Live!

Seven of this years Colegrave Seabrook Foundation students were presented with their awards on the Let's Talk Plants Stage at BBC Gardeners World Live! on Friday.

 

Thomas Green    Suffolk New College     The Principles and Practices of  Garden Design    Smart Garden Scholarship Experience in retail horticulture, historic gardens, landscape and growing, Thomas is now working for the college he is studying at, running a small team of staff and volunteers in the horticultural centre, with a view to growing his knowledge and experience further. Keeping an open mind but potentially seeing his ultimate future in teaching others about horticulture, Sam is keen to widen his experience of the opportunities in the industry. Expecting to qualify in 2026


Molly Cave    SRUC Scotlands Rural College        HND Production Science Horticulture    Smart Garden Scholarship Training as a Chef after leaving school, Molly has a lot of experience of working hard in a fast paced, pressured environment while also being well used to working in customer facing roles. Currently a chef in one of Edinburgh’s leading bakeries to help fund her horticultural studies, Molly also ran her own creative online business which is where her interest in plants originated. Blending business, marketing and plants is her dream in the world of commercial horticulture. Expecting to qualify May 2027


Zoe Grange    SRUC Glasgow Queens Park    HNC Horticulture    Brian Crosby Scholarship. The creator of a medal winning  garden at the recent Scone Palace Flower Show, Zoe is working part-time in a private garden opened under the NGS to help fund her horticultural studies. Originally working in architecture with a specialism in the creation of urban green spaces.  Expecting to qualify in June 2026, but may go on to do a further qualification


Isaac Lyon    Hadlow College    Commercial Horticulture Foundation Degree    The new Levington Evergreen Scholarship Committed to nursery work, producing flowers and plants for others to enjoy is a bit of a change in route for Isaac who was originally on track to join the RAF. Now his career is flying even higher in horticulture. Expecting to qualify in 2027


Esme Goldenberg    Pershore College    Crop Technician    Ball Colegrave Scholarship Looking to become a skilled grower, plants give Esme a focus. Training initially as a teacher with a sciency background modern horticulture with all the technical requirements of soil science, feeding, crop health and culture of ornamental plants are right up her street.


Lexie Bull    Pershore College        Crop Technician    The first student to be awarded the Production Horticulture Work Experience Bursary jointly funded and supported by the RHS and Hillier Nurseries. Lexie is interested in the diverse opportunities a career in horticulture can bring. A particular focus on the technical aspects of plant growth, she is about to embark on a two week placement at Hillier Nurseries getting involved in large scale, modern plant production techniques. Seeking to qualify in June 2026


Alastair Stanley    Eden Project Cornwall    BSC Plant Science & Horticulture    The first winner of our recently launched, Robert Tannahill Travel Scholarship From a farming background Alastair has always been surrounded by the natural world, so selling ice cream to working with plant breeding for resilience to climate change is all just part of life. Just back from a trip to Australia working in horticulture


Cameron Gilbert    CAFRE Northern Ireland    Advanced Technical Diploma in Horticulture    Wyevale Nurseries Scholarship Working in a garden centre, Cameron is attracted by both the ‘art’ of plants and the ‘science’ and is keen to learn about the modern techniques in larger plant production nurseries where ornamental plants are grown.  Expecting to qualify August 2026

 

Seth Dellow    Bicton College    RHS Level 2 Theory & Practical    John Gibson Scholarship Training as a journalist before becoming a policy and communications manager for an MP with an interest in the Environment has seen Seth change careers into Horticulture and now working to help others cope with life through the benefits of Horticulture and its therapeutic value for himself and clients
