The Blue Diamond Group of Garden Centres are donating 100% of sale proceeds from the ‘Peace’ rose to the British Red Cross Ukraine Crisis Appeal

The Blue Diamond Group, the UK’s second-largest Garden Centre Group, last week announced to their 4000 plus employees, that in order to show solidarity to the people of Ukraine, the Group were to donate 100% of sale proceeds from the ‘Peace’ rose to the British Red Cross Ukraine Crisis Appeal.

The ‘Peace’ rose was named in 1945 to mark the end of World War II. At the inaugural meeting of the United Nations, held in San Francisco in late 1945, ‘Peace’ roses were handed out to each of the delegations with a note that read “We hope the ‘Peace’ rose will influence men’s thoughts for everlasting World peace”.

The Group has approximately 2200 Peace roses, worth £43, 978 at full retail price, which have been grown on their nursery to sell. A strong Social Media awareness campaign will be launched this week and continue until the stock of these roses has sold out and the full retail value donated to the appeal.

The ‘Peace’ rose is available in all Blue Diamond Garden Centres and online at www.fryersroses.co.uk, whilst stocks last.

I have just read this article about Blue Diamond donating 100% of their sales proceeds from the sale of Peace Rose, to the Ukraine appeal and thought what a fantastic initiative that is. It struck me that wouldn’t it be wonderful if the whole industry unities in doing exactly the same thing?

Now individual centres and groups maybe taking their own initiatives to help the Ukraine appeal, but I did think this could be a wonderful, coordinated way of helping across our industry and the choice of Rose Peace seems so beautifully appropriate.

Anyway, I thought I’d just suggest it and see if any others agree
