Northampton based company GreanBase will feature on BBC 2’s Dragons Den this Sunday 30th September in what will prove to be a memorable episode in the long running TV series. Father / son duo of Mike and Joe Smith pitch their simple gardening tool “The Wheelbarrow Booster” and receive positive reviews from all 5 Dragons but unfortunately give a rude awakening when it came to making their offers of investment.
“Without wanting to give too much away I don’t think the Dragons have been challenged in the Den like this before” commented Director Joe Smith “we were flattered there was interest in the product but we all know that the Dragons take the micky sometimes when they ask for percentages of a business, the problem is that too many people are a little bit too intimidated to argue back. Fortunately Mike has never really watched the show before and instead of keeping to pleasant protocol of the Den he lets them know what he thinks straight away.” The BBC’s website quotes that we “cause consternation amongst the multimillionaire investors with their no nonsense negotiating style” which is pretty accurate in my opinion.
Mike and Joe went into the Den seeking investment to expand their business for a garden tool that can be used worldwide hoping to land a Dragons that would give extra impetus when approaching multinational retailers and were proud to receive positive comments on the product but weren’t prepared to buckle under the pressure of 5 TV personalities. GreanBase are the final and main feature of episode 4 but ironically Mike will not be watching it “I went on for the product to get famous, not for me to get famous” commented the tempestuous landscape Gardener from Yorkshire.
