John Stanley - Developing a new experience in an Amazon World

Early in 2017 fifteen leading garden centre owners from around the world met with John Stanley in Paris, France to develop new ideas to ensure their business prospered in a changing retail world. It was agreed that John would not reveal their thoughts and actions until after the GCA Congress in Chicago on Tuesday 15th August this year where John is the keynote speaker.

Those ideas have now been developed into a workshop or conference presentation for the rest of the industry.

The Programme

The Objectives

  • To introduce new “experience mapping” to leading nursery business to enable them to introduce them into their business prior to the introduction of new retail channels being developed which could erode their business if action did not take place.
  • To analyse trends and convert them into action plans that will encourage more consumers to use independent retail garden channels to purchase their products.
  • Develop a profitable retail model for the future when the existing model will fail to grow sales.

The Presentation

  • Why change is inevitable and why now is the time to change
  • The new consumer we need to attract, what we are missing and why?
  • Experience mapping and how we can use it to grow sales
  • Plants are the “core”, we need to market them to our consumers in different way.
  • The role of online selling for independent garden centres
  • The new look retail outlet, what needs to change and why.
  • Why the future is positive for the independent, developing an action plan to meet the needs of the aspiring consumer.

This presentation has been designed as either a one-hour conference presentation or as a one day workshop.
