Van Hage Peterborough soon to have supermarket neighbour

Planning permission is expected to be granted tomorrow (February 18th) for a 7,000 sq m A1 Supermarket development on the Peterborough Garden Park site, where Van Hage Garden Centre is the lead tenant.

The revised planning application includes an increase in size for the supermarket from 6,000 to 7,000 sq m and parking for 600 cars.

Garden Park Investments, who own the site, do not state which retailer will be taking on the store but the proposal says: "This revised scheme before committee has been devised to facilitate the specific requirements of a foodstore operator with whom the developer are in advanced negotiation."

Local speculation is that the most likely operator will be Asda.  Waitrose have recently announced plans to build a new store in Peterborough close to the Queensgate Shopping Centre and the railway station.

The paper being presented to the Peterborough Planning Committee recommends that the application be approved subject to certain conditions.
