Paskett PR has been working in the industry for more than 20 years and is a regular fixture at various trade and consumer shows, supporting clients and handling the media on their behalf. In this special GTN Xtra we discover how the company has gone from strength to strength.

"Our friends at Garden Trade News and GTN Xtra have let us access their contact list so we can introduce ourselves to you and tell you about some of our key successes with our gardening clients in 2012," said Graham Paskett.

"Last year was tough for more people in the industry: the weather combined with the economic uncertainty made it extremely challenging. It is important that your market's pounds are invested shrewdly to maximise your return.

"That certainly happened for Briggs & Stratton and WoodBlocX. Our work on behalf of B&S’s Britain’s Best Lawn secured for them more than £1/2 million worth of media coverage. In the wake of their success on Dragon’s Den, WoodBlocX employed us to help them turn their unique system into a national brand.

"The funny world of PR helps us to drive customers to buy using both traditional and social media and helping get brands into the forefront of potential customers’ minds."

Paskett PR's client base spans everything from mowers to blowers, tools to sheds, raised beds to open gardens, retailers and garden sculptors...

Last year the company helped petrol engine manufacturer Briggs & Stratton achieve armfuls of national TV, print and broadcast coverage for Britain’s Best Lawn competition.

In September the Paskett team began working with WoodBlocX after their success on BBC’s Dragon’s Den, building on the TV exposure to ensure the company's products were reaching a mass audience.

Paskett PR have also started working with mower brand Cub Cadet to help raise their profile in the UK, while Allett Mowers, the first domestic cylinder lawn mower brand in the UK for more than 60 years, work with the team to help build their brand.

Graham started Paskett Public Relations in 1976, having trained as a newspaper reporter in the Midlands.

He worked on a series of daily and evening newspapers before moving into the oil industry to head up the public relations department for a brand leading company.

He believes that the main reason why the firm is one of the UK’s leading specialist gardening PR consultancies is because he is a gardener and can talk to journalists from a position of knowledge and experience.

Over the years he has used his garden as a trial ground for various plants and products.

PPR’s new Dragons’ Den company goes back five generations
Fuelled by a massive boost from successfully appearing on Dragon’s Den and a further £150k worth of publicity secured by Paskett PR, WoodBlocX faces 2013 in buoyant mood...

Fuelled by a massive boost from successfully appearing on Dragon’s Den and a further £150k worth of publicity secured by Paskett PR, WoodBlocX, the brand that secured £75k of funding from the programme in October, faces 2013 in buoyant mood.

But the family behind it are hardly strangers to the timber industry as the firm can trace its history back five generations.

Henry Blake’s great-great-great-grandmother Elsie Smith started a timber supplies business in Scotland in 1890 and today the main family business, Munro Sawmills from Dingwall, is the UK’s largest producer of wooden fencing panel components.
