Alan Down, immediate past president of the Horticultural Trades Association, declared the newly refurbished houseplant area at Brimsmore Gardens in Yeovil to be open.
Throughout January, the houseplant area was cleared to make way for a new polycarbonate greenhouse roof and automated ventilation system and has been fully restocked with a new and larger selection of houseplants.
More durable than glass and allowing for better climate control, UV protection and air flow, the new greenhouse roof, which was installed by Newspan, has helped the dedicated team create the perfect conditions for their wide range of houseplants. In keeping with The Gardens Group’s environmental and sustainability initiatives, Brimsmore Gardens is growing its range of peat free and British grown houseplants, with varieties from The Horti House and Opperman Plants among the products on offer.
Adam Wallis, site manager at Brimsmore Gardens, said: “This is an exciting development for Brimsmore Gardens as we continue to operate in a more sustainable and eco conscious way. We’re thrilled with this new greenhouse roof, as it means that we can give these plants the best conditions to thrive in, while reducing our impact on the environment. The polycarbonate helps shield plants from the sunlight, so leaves don’t get scorched, and helps with insulation, so we don’t need to use energy to heat the room unnecessarily.”
Brimsmore Gardens, which is part of The Gardens Group, is open seven days a week.
