Growing media sales give way to Christmas

Growing media continues its downward week-on-week slide, suggesting that planting activity and bedding sales have now all but dried up as consumers switch their focus to Christmas shopping. However, it you’re looking for a glimmer of good news, year-to-date sales are up 3.2% on the same week last year – although still looking decidedly jaded against autumn 2011. In general sales volumes are being driven by top soil (for raised beds, perhaps) and bark as the autumn tidy-up of paths and borders gets under way. Highest new entry this week is, significantly, the smallest pack size (25L) of Levington Multi-Purpose Compost – a pick-up line in the Christmas shopping basket?
