The Colegrave Seabrook Foundation are delighted to announce that a record 19 students have been awarded scholarships this year.
Speaking following the recent trustees meeting, Colegrave Seabrook Foundation chair, Jeff Colegrave, said: “We were very impressed with the number and quality of the applications for scholarships that we received for this scholarship season. This made it a particularly difficult task to select the winners, but thanks to the increased interest and sponsorship we have received from the industry this year, we were able to award almost £27,500 distributed amongst 19 students. This is considerably more than we have been able to do before and we are very grateful to those companies who have helped us make this possible.”
This years scholarships have been awarded to the following students:

Blue Diamond Scholarships – Adam Sultan studying at Writtle University College

HortTech Scholarship – Dan Jones studying at Writtle University College
The Hort Research Scholarship, in conjunction with the Royal Society of Biology is awarded separately through their Plant Health Studentship programme in April.
In addition, a group from Bridgewater and Taunton College have been awarded a Travel Bursary to help fund a study tour to The Netherlands.
“We were particularly pleased that we received applications from such a wide selection of horticultural colleges and institutions across the UK,” added Jeff. “With the increased interest in plants and the environment we hope to see even more students choosing horticulture as a career in the future. We are committed to increasing awareness of the potential that the horticultural industry can offer and demonstrate that horticulture is a viable, satisfying and extremely worthwhile career choice. I would like to say ‘Congratulations’ to all the students who have been awarded scholarships this year and look forward to getting the opportunity to meet some of them in person throughout the coming year.”
Being awarded a Colegrave Seabrook Scholarship can make a huge difference to a student. One recipient this year said “I'm absolutely overwhelmed with emotion. Thank you for giving me faith in myself, to achieve what was at one point in my life completely unachievable. This award has given me a huge push to succeed and grow in every way possible”, while another added “ I am over the moon to hear my scholarship application has been successful - this bursary will certainly go a long way to supporting my ambitions.”
Scholarship awards will be spent on a variety of uses to help students get the best out of their horticultural studies, from paying course fees and purchasing resources to travel to visit growers and botanic gardens across the world.
