Pots of Sustainability in RHS Chelsea Sustainable Gardening Product of the Year

Ocean Plastic Pots, made from discarded rope and fishing net in the UK, have been announced as the winners of the first-ever RHS Chelsea Sustainable Garden Product of the Year Award.

This years RHS Chelsea Flower Show annual Garden Product of the Year was judged against a criteria that considers the products’ green credentials.

All the items, which are listed in full below and include a composting toilet, plant pots made from recycled ocean waste and an innovative green wall system, will be on display at RHS Chelsea Flower Show in September.

Judges considered carbon footprint, durability, how well the products biodegrade and if it they are recylable as well as design innovation, functionality and quality.

The shortlist was assessed by a team of experts including entrepreneur and Dragons’ Den investor Deborah Meaden and chaired up by sustainability expert Chris Harrop OBE.

He said: “This year’s shortlist shows manufacturers are bringing to market sustainable new products that address the challenges  facing us all; climate change, plastics and pollution and the need to ensure products are ethically sourced whilst still allowing consumers to enjoy their love of gardening in all its forms.”
