Burgon & Ball wins four stars at Chelsea

Burgon & Ball, creator of beautiful garden tools since 1730, has won four stars from the Royal Horticultural Society for its stand at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2024.

In its 27th year at the show, the Sheffield-based company has been honoured for the excellent presentation of its stand. The trade stand awards recognise exhibitors which enhance the Chelsea visitor experience by combining creativity, design and theatre in a stand which is not only about product, but which offers an attraction in its own right.

This year Burgon & Ball’s eye-catching display focuses on ‘Fern Fever’, exploring an era when an ancient plant was the height of fashion. In the 19th century pteridomania took horticulture by storm on both sides of the Atlantic – and in today’s changing climate, these resilient plants are increasingly in the spotlight once again. Chelsea visitors can see ferns in many of the gardens at the show this year, and get a glimpse of their horticultural history at the Burgon & Ball stand.

The stand also draws inspiration from a quote from American horticulturalist Liberty Hyde Bailey: ‘Tools of many kinds and well chosen are one of the joys of a garden’. The eye-catching main display puts Burgon & Ball’s extensive collection of RHS-endorsed tools centre stage, showcasing the many trowel designs in the range, including the three GIMA award-winning latest additions.

Rainer Schubert, managing director at Burgon & Ball, says: “We are delighted to receive this four-star award from the judges. As the only garden tools endorsed by the RHS, it means a great deal to us to know that our Chelsea stand more than meets the exacting standards required of exhibitors.

“Every year at Chelsea we work very hard to deliver the highest standard of display, worthy of the high-profile space that we occupy on Main Avenue. We’re in a prestigious position amongst the show gardens and we feel we have a lot to live up to. We’re pleased that the RHS panel feels we have added to the visitor experience with our stand this year.”

Rainer continues: “We invest significantly both in new product development, and in building our brand presence. It’s a combination which means we have exciting new products, and importantly, that gardeners know about them.

“Each year the Chelsea Flower Show is our best and most direct opportunity to get feedback from the gardeners who use and love our products. We’re thrilled that this year both our stand visitors and the RHS judging panel feel that our quality, expertise and innovation are on display on Main Avenue.”
