British Garden Centres acquires Hayes Garden World, their 73rd BGC centre

British Garden Centres, the UK’s largest family-owned garden centre group, is delighted to announce the acquisition of Hayes Garden World, one of the most respected garden centres in the UK.

This acquisition further strengthens British Garden Centres’ position as the UK’s leading garden centre operator. With Hayes Garden World joining its portfolio, British Garden Centres now operates 73 centres nationwide, continuing its rapid growth with eight stores joining the business since the beginning of 2025.

Hayes Garden World has been a well-known Garden Centre, of the Lake District since the early 19th century. The business has evolved from a small nursery into one of northern England's premier garden centres.  Hayes Garden World, will take the name of Hayes Garden Centre, honouring the reputation of the family-owned business.  The site will remain open while undergoing a brief transition period for rebranding and restocking. The existing team will be retained.

Martin Capell, Owner of Hayes Garden World said“We are delighted to be handing the reigns of Hayes over from one family to another. We would like to thank our wonderful customers for their business over the decades and our loyal team, both past and present, for all their hard work, leadership, commitment, and friendship. This is an exciting time for the business and we wish everybody involved the very best.”

Charles Stubbs, Founder and Director of British Garden Centres, said: “We are thrilled to welcome Hayes Garden World to the British Garden Centres family.  Hayes Garden World’s reputation and commitment to quality align perfectly with our values as a family-run business.
