Burleydam sold to to Carr Farm Garden Centre

After over 35 years of trading on their site near Ellesmere Port in Cheshire, owners Adrian and Sally Cornelissen have sold Burleydam Garden Centre to their near Neighbours  Carr Farm Garden Centre, located further up the Wirral peninsula.

Sally & Adrian started their horticultural careers at the company’s site in Gateacre, Liverpool, following the death of Sally’s father, Gerry Williams, in 1986.  They have now decided to retire, hence the sale of their company, E H Williams Garden Centres & Nurseries.

Burleydam Garden Centre was bought by the couple in 1989 as a small retail nursery and expanded gradually before a major re-development in 2005, project- managed by Peter Jennins MBE, director of the subsidiary company E H Williams Environment Ltd, which played a major part in the conception and construction of the Liverpool Garden Festival.

Both Sally & Adrian have been staunch supporters of the horticultural industry, sitting on various HTA and GCA committees. Adrian is the current Area Representative for the HTA in the North West.

Although admitting that they will miss the cut and thrust of a busy garden centre, neither will miss opening the curtains on a Bank Holiday weekend to see what the weather is like!

The Carr Farm family will bring a new energy to the business and have many ideas to expand the offer at Burleydam. They will work alongside Colin Pascoe, who has been with the company for 34 years, and the existing management team.

Sally & Adrian wish Dave, Sue, Karen, Tomas and Catherine all the very best and thank the wonderful Burleydam team for their support and friendship over the years.

The Carr Farm family have said "Carr Farm Garden Centre are delighted to announce that Burleydam Garden Centre is to become part of our family business. Burleydam will be trading as normal, with all the familiar faces and the same trading name.

"The two garden centres together will create the buying capacity for better deals in store for all our customers. We feel Burleydam will be a great acquisition, as we are both family run businesses and will retain the friendly atmosphere.

"The Carr Farm family would like to thank Adrian, Sally, Colin and all the team at Burleydam for helping to make this happen. We would also like to wish Adrian and Sally a happy and healthy retirement."

Quinton Edwards acted for the vendors in the sale.
