The Greenfingers Wing Walk is back

To date, 15 brave souls have strapped themselves atop a biplane to swoop across the Cotswold countryside in aid of the Greenfingers Charity. Now, with 3rd September earmarked for the 2024 Greenfingers Wing Walk, the charity is issuing a rallying call to the industry not to miss out on the chance to wing walk into the Greenfingers Hall of Fame!

Taking place at the AeroSuperBatics headquarters at RAF Rendcomb Airfield, the 2024 Wing Walk will see daring new flyers join the exclusive list of those that have taken part in this adrenaline-fuelled adventure before them.  To date, the impressive list boasts names, such as GIMA’s Vicky Nuttall, Evergreen’s Mark Portman, British Garden Centres’ Phillippa Stubbs, Kimberley Hornby, Managing Director of Hornby George PR as well as SBM’s Lowri Walker – the first person to ever complete the loop-the-loop in aid of Greenfingers!

Supporting the Wingwalkers on the day will be the expert pilots from AeroSuperBatics, the team behind the Breitling Wingwalkers, a much-loved display act at UK airshows. Upon arrival at the airfield, all participants will be briefed before being strapped to the top wing of the historic biplane. Wingwalkers will then experience the roar of the plane’s 450hp Pratt & Whitney engine – the largest and most powerful engine operated in the UK for wing walking – with the propeller hitting speeds of up to 760mph at full throttle! Once the flight is underway, wingwalkers will only be able to communicate with their pilot via hand signals, as the plane performs daredevil flypasts, zoom climbs, steep dives and banks in front of friends and family. Greenfingers supporters are also welcome to come along on the day to encourage these courageous souls!

To date Russell Thompson, Sales Merchandiser at the AMES Companies and Hornby George PR’s Kimberley Hornby have confirmed their place on the 2024 roster, with Kimberley completing her loop the loop. She said: “There are a million different ways to support the Greenfingers Charity and I like to do it by scary myself stupid! It’s not everyday you get to strap yourself to the top of a plane, safe in the knowledge that you’re raising essential funds for such a deserving charity, so I urge anyone considering taking part to get their name on the list now. It’s such a brilliant day, you won’t regret it!”

Russell added: “I wanted to do the wing walk because I have seen the work Greenfingers and its volunteers do and how it changes and improves people’s lives who need it. I believe that if people have the opportunity to help people they should. Being able to represent my company, raise money for a great cause and be able to have fun whilst doing it for me is a no brainier!”

With a maximum of eight spaces available, there is plenty of opportunity for people to push themselves outside of their comfort zone to raise vital funds for the charity.
