Agapanthus AtomicSparkx™ Lavender (ALTatomicage) – a compact, high‑performance new Agapanthus from the US breeding programme at Altman Plants – has been officially entered into the Plantarium Novelties Awards 2026 by Walter Blom Plants and Plants for Europe.
This striking new variety is already proving its promise in the Plants for Europe trial garden this summer. AtomicSparkx™ Lavender combines large, pale purple blooms, exceptionally sturdy stems, and a compact, garden‑friendly habit that makes it ideal for modern planting schemes, hot summers and smaller outdoor spaces. Its massive lavender inflorescences and reliable reblooming habit make it a standout performer for both growers and gardeners.
AtomicSparkx™ Lavender is the first compact Agapanthus to carry the signature traits of its larger sibling, Agapanthus AtomicBloom - delivering big flowers on shorter stems, strong weather resistance, and a neat, manageable growth habit. Like the rest of the Agapanthus ‘Atomic’ series, Lavender offers a rare combination of winter hardiness, repeat flowering, robust vigour, and excellent performance in both open ground and containers.
Bred by Altman Plants in the United States and represented in the UK and Europe by Plants for Europe, AtomicSparkx™ Lavender will be showcased at Plantarium|Groen‑Direkt 2026, taking place on 26–27 August in Hazerswoude‑Dorp, the Netherlands.
Graham from Plants for Europe will be attending Plantarium and is available for meetings to discuss the Atomic series or any varieties within the PFE portfolio.
