Six arrests made after ram-raid at Cumbria Garden Centre

Six men have been arrested on suspicion of burglary after a ram-raid at Hayes Garden World in Rothay Road in Ambleside.

On arrival, officers located a safe and a window frame in the middle of the road outside Broadview Guest House.

It is believed that the rope attaching the safe to a vehicle snapped during the raid and the offenders made off.

Police stopped two Audi vehicles around twenty minutes later on the A591. Both vehicles contained three men and police subsequently arrested six men from the Manchester area on suspicion of burglary.

The six men are in custody and are helping officers with their enquiries.

Jon Hill, detective constable, said: “We are looking for anyone who may have witnessed the actual incident or any suspicious behaviour in the area. We appreciate that it would have been dark and most people may have been asleep but any information, no matter how insignificant you may deem it, could help assist with our enquiries.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Police on 101 and ask to speak to DC Jon Hill.
