Easter closure hits growing media growth

Ten percent less trading hours and a 10% drop in sales volumes means growing media sales have kept pace with overall garden centre trading and further illustrates that even when it’s great gardening weather if the footfall is not there, because centres have to close for the day, then staples like growing media just can’t sell through.

The highlights this week were:
  • Scotts Levington Multipurpose + John Innes (56 litres) stayed on top of the chart.
  • Scotts Levington Ericaceous Compost (20 litres) was the highest climber, jumping 21 places to No 12.
  • Westland Tomato Planter (60 litres) was the highest re-entry at No 27.
  • Westland Gro-Sure Smart Cover (100 litres) was the highest new entry.
