Big changes imminent at Garden & Leisure as TGCG carries out major restructure of the business G&L marketing director John Moseley is latest executive to leave
As Garden & Leisure marketing director John Moseley left the business suddenly this week, the industry braced itself for more casualties as owners The Garden Centre Group carries a full review of the business.
There are fears of job losses among garden centre staff, and TGCG is also looking to transfer operational duties of G&L from the current base at Cadbury near Bristol to its head office at Syon Park in London.
John Moseley confirmed to GTN Xtra that yesterday (Friday) was his last day working in the Garden & Leisure business and could only add he was leaving to pursue other interests.
“The leadership team at The Garden Centre Group would like to thank John for his significant contribution to the Garden & Leisure Group," said a TGCG spokesperson.
John Moseley, pictured receiving a prize at The Greatest Christmas Awards last month, was managing director at Barnett Hill Garden Centre near Stourbridge in the West Midlands from 1991 until 2003, before becoming a director of G&L a year later. He sold his shares to the group shortly after Truffaut completed its acquisition from the Lloyd family.
He becomes the third director to leave following the acquisition of the seven G&L garden centres by The Garden Centre Group, the others being MD Neville Prest and operations director Carol Paris.
There are fears that his departure won't be the last as TGCG review the management structure and staffing at G&L. It has been reported that 75 garden centre staff are currently going through a consultation process for 45 jobs – some of which will be part time – although TGCG said it wouldn't comment on HR matters.
The company did however admit that G&L head office staff based at Cadbury are being consulted about transferring from Bristol to London.
“We have decided that operating Head Office functions out of our Syon Park London location will best allow us to smoothly and efficiently run our centres as we integrate the company and invest in further development of our centres," said the TGCG spokesperson.
"We are looking forward to opportunities for the expansion and the development of our combined offering going forward.”
