It’s been an average May for sales in garden centres

Sales figures for the last week of the month, as supplied from Epos systems to GTN Bestsellers, indicate that while volumes of items sold are down on last May, they are not far off the average May sales totals for the past six years.

The GTN Bestsellers All Products Index shows May being 16% down on 2013 volumes.

However, as May was the only month in 2013 when sales were above average, this year’s figures – at just 1.6% below the average for the past six years – mean we are still on course for a record sales performance for the half year.

Comparing each month this year against the average for the last six years shows us that the major differences happened in January (when we didn’t have any snow) and in March (when we had a normal spring).
