Our planet is facing a plastic pollution crisis. Each year we produce 300 million tonnes of plastic waste – that’s nearly the same weight as the entire world population. Predictions show that unless something is done to reduce this, we will have created four times as much plastic waste by 2050.

It’s a well-known fact that much of this plastic waste ends up in our oceans, about eight million tonnes in fact – that’s enough to circle the earth 425 times. Each year this ‘ocean plastic’ is killing in excess of 100,000 marine creatures, and by 2050 there could be more plastic than fish calling the ocean home. However, there is help at hand. Initiatives such as ocean circular recovery projects are helping to raise awareness and encourage consumers to take responsibility for local ocean clean-up operations. But what happens to the ocean plastic that is recovered?

Tackling a worldwide issue, LifestyleGarden® is the proud producer of DuraOcean®, an innovative development that is breaking new ground by utilising recycled maritime plastic, to create the world’s first commercially available chair made with marine plastic waste, setting the benchmark for sustainable material usage and design.

DuraOcean® garden chairs and tables are a shining example of our commitment to responsible practices, manufactured from 100% recycled plastics recovered and safely processed; preventing the plastic from entering and polluting the Oceans.

Not only are the raw materials taken from recycled marine plastic, but the entire chairs and tables can be disassembled and recycled once again at the end of their lifecycles. The majority of the plastic is sourced from industrial ropes, which also provide the standard green DuraOcean® colour. We are continuously working to deliver more colours, all without compromising to the recycled material and further recyclability of the chair.

Our partner sources the plastic material from harbours, marine environments and the marine industry, before transforming the plastic waste into a valuable recycled raw material, which is delivered to us in pellet form. This is done after a series of washing and cleaning of the material, after sorting based on the type of plastic to ensure the highest quality and properties. These pellets are mixed into a resin with other additives – all of which are REACH compliant and recyclable – and injected into our custom-built moulds. The result is a UV-resistant and ergonomically designed product that is supported by our hard-wearing FSC®-certified Brazilian Eucalyptus wood. This combination of nature and plastic is the DuraOcean® chairs and tables that results in stunning wooden furniture and Eucalyptus furniture.

Duracoat® requires very little maintenance. If the Duracoat® coating becomes soiled, soap and water should be used to clean it.

Duresin® is our unique formulation of 100% virgin polypropylene without fibre glass and is ideal for outdoor use. This material contains no harmful chemicals and can be recycled without producing waste.

Duresin® is mould-injected in order to create hard-wearing, recyclable and maintenance-free products. Once injected into the mould and formed, polypropylene and composite polypropylene are extremely durable, creating long-lasting furniture with UV resistance.

LifestyleGarden®’s AluPrint® is our own patented way of printing beautiful finishes onto aluminium furniture to lift the look of the material to the next level. Done entirely in-house, this finish allows us to add a natural look to the metal, while maintaining a very low weight and high durability. AluPrint® also allows us to find new ways of adding details to our products that adds just that extra touch to the pieces of any outdoor space and allowing for zero maintenance and premium weather resistance.

AluPrint® requires no special maintenance – simply clean with soap and water.

DuraBoard® by LifestyleGarden® is a responsibly sourced material that is durable, highly UV-resistant and has a unique surface finish. It features two main components: the first is a unique blend of high-quality FSC™ eucalyptus sawdust and polyethylene resin, extruded to create a strong, durable structure. Following this, the table top is treated with UV and receives a multi-layer coating which makes it highly resistant to all weather conditions.

The production of DuraBoard® occurs entirely in-house, enabling each stage of the process to be closely monitored for quality control purposes. Due to the combination of the two components and the highly durable surface finish created, LifestyleGarden® DuraBoard® is the future of table top surfaces.

Made from recycled plastic waste, this material is collected by the local population along the rivers and coasts of South East Asia – who are trained and paid for this – preventing it from entering landfills and ocean. This helps the clean-up of our planet and compensate the people who care for the well-being of their home areas and also supports building sustainable communities.

Our Social Plastic® pieces are made with circularity in mind and can be disassembled and reintroduced to the production circle through re-recycling.

Our fabrics are very easy to maintain. Soap, water and a wet cloth should be used to remove any stains or soiling. LifestyleGarden® fabrics are suitable for outdoor use, throughout the year. Please note that the full cushions should be removed or covered during periods of rain to avoid getting wet, and stored in a dry area or covered during winter months.

A select range of LifestyleGarden’s® outdoor furniture has been developed with Weather-net®, a yarn finely woven to create the perfect solution for outdoor seating. The polyester yarn has high strength and elasticity, providing optimum comfort and durability.

The Weather-net® manufacturing process is highly integrated, beginning with the extrusion of the polyester yarn, weaving, and pressing before the completed Weather-net® is attached to one of LifestyleGarden’s many chair frames.
