Seriously Spooky Sales at Chessington

Halloween proved a seriously spooky hit at Chessington Garden Centre this half term week.  On Halloween itself the centre was full of children and parents taking part in a number of Spooky events including 300 children arriving at 2:00pm for a Spooky Tea.

The Surrey centre decided to make more of Halloween by creating a series of fun activities.  Some, such as the Spooky Films, utilised the infrastructure being put in place for their Christmas Grotto.  A Spooky Zoo played to full houses all week as children got hands on experiences with snakes, tortoises and even a crocodile.  Students from a local school helped set up and run a Spooky Witches Broom Hunt, Slimey Tombola and Skull Bowling.  Over £5,000 has been raised during the week for Rainbow Trust Childrens Charity.

When GTN Xtra joined in the fun on Friday 31st October Chessington Garden Centre MD, Jolyon Martin told us; "holding these events have really helped us boost sales this half term, even though we still have major roadworks causing problems for customers to get here.  "Catering, Christmas, Pet and Gift sales are all up year on year."

"It's been a tremendous team effort by all of our staff and the volunteers.  Using some of the grotto facilities in advance has put pressure on that build and the restaurant team have pulled off a minor miracle catering with the number of Spooky Teas we sold."

Next year Jolyon will add a marquee onto the restaurant to cope with their Seriously Spooky demand.

Now the Chessington team get back to work preparing for the opening of their grotto on November 15th.  Last year they had 46,000 visitors.
