Denis Guillemin, Restaurant Operations Manager at the award-winning, family run garden centre at Monkton Heathfield near Taunton, said: “Enjoying a delicious cake is one of life’s little pleasures and we want to make sure everyone can enjoy an afternoon pick-me-up, which is why we are stocking a range of delicious, homemade gluten-free cakes from some of our suppliers.
“We have a selection of Victoria sponges and date and almond cakes as well as gluten and dairy-free chocolate brownies and sticky toffee pudding from Homemade with Love.
“Our supplier GFree provides us with individually wrapped Millionaire’s shortbread, fruit cake slice, lemon drizzle cake, Bakewell slices, scones and chocolate fudge cake.”
In addition to this the garden centre also serves a gluten-free gravy, chips and a selection of quiches, pasties and sausage rolls on its Deli counter.
In order to avoid cross contamination the gluten-free items are displayed separately from the normal items on offer.
Denis added: “Our gluten-free cakes are some of our first steps to providing options for people with varying diets and those who are health conscious. We also offer vegetarian options as well.”
