Hopes for footfall to rise in the warmer weather
|
What will the warmer, but wetter weather bring for garden centre sales? That is the question on everyone’s mind as at last the cold winds switch round to the South and South-West.
Hopefully, the change in conditions should encourage people out into their gardens and get things growing after a period of almost ‘hibernation’ during the past three weeks.
Plant sales, veg plant sales and growing media sales all fared better year-on-year than decorative and core gardening products during the second week of May so there is plenty of desire and potential for all garden centre sales to soar when footfall gets back to ‘normal’ early summer levels.
Pest control products should certainly sell well over the next few weeks as slugs and bugs wake up.
And what effect will the RHS Chelsea Flower Show have on plant sales? Have you got your stunning displays of Lupins, Dephiniums, Digitalis and Hydrangeas ready for customers trolleys? GTN will report on the plants that grab the headlines at Chelsea next week.
