Online retailers compete for the gardener's pound

A growing number of online retail outlets are now competing with traditional garden centres for the custom of gardeners nationwide.

One of the newest initiatives comes from Shoot, the online gardening resource with over 50 000 members and up to 1 million unique hits per month.

The company have launched Shoot Marketplace, which they claim is a single shop front for 55 specialist growers and producers, offering over 4000 gardening-related product lines across 13 key categories.

“Shoot Marketplace will ultimately offer a bigger range than any other garden shopping destination, and this will be great for the customer,” says Nicola Gammon, founder of Shoot.

“Our aim is to support an existing community of shops already selling fantastic range of plants and products, but without the e-commerce and marketing muscle to compete with the large established retailers.

"We want to give these shops a platform to tell their stories and to shine a spotlight on them. As independent community managers, rather than retailers ourselves, we want to foster real relationships between our members and these shops.

"Shoot Marketplace will be a social e-commerce site where members can recommend new products and shops, add ratings and comments.”

At shop.shootgardening.co.uk customers can buy from dozens of companies through a single, secure checkout, with options for both ‘home delivery’ and ‘click and collect’ from many participating shops.
